The most exciting game of round 31 in the Liga Nacional took place in Valdivia. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked Osorno Basquetbol (22-10) to fifth ranked Deportivo Valdivia (18-12) 79-76 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Osorno Basquetbol. 25 personal fouls committed by Osorno Basquetbol helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American Durrell Summers (193-89, college: Michigan St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. International Fernando Schuler (190-91) helped adding 7 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side international forward Juan Fontena (196-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 18 rebounds. Deportivo Valdivia maintains fifth place with 18-12 record. Osorno Basquetbol at the other side keeps the second position with ten games lost.
Seventh-ranked Puerto Montt (14-16) gave a tough game to fourth ranked AB Ancud (19-13). AB Ancud managed to secure only three-point victory 73-70. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Puerto Montt. It was an exceptional evening for Venezuelan swingman Francisco Centeno (201-85) who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. Renato Vera accounted for 12 points and 5 rebounds. AB Ancud's coach Ivan Gallardo allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American power forward Mike Phillips (201-90, college: Howard) came up with 22 points and 6 rebounds for Puerto Montt in the defeat. AB Ancud maintains fourth place with 19-13 record. Puerto Montt at the other side keeps the seventh position with 16 games lost.
Liga Nacional top team - Los Leones (24-8) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat twelfth ranked Universidad Catolica (6-26) in Santiago 90-84. Brandon Bowdry fired a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. John Dickson produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. Universidad Catolica's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Los Leones have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 24-8 record. Universidad Catolica lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 26 lost games.
Ninth ranked CD Castro (14-18) crushed at home 8th ranked Las Animas (14-18) by 32 points 83-51, which is the biggest margin this round. Worth to mention a great performance of Rodrigo Madera who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks. CD Castro's coach M De La Fuente felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. CD Castro moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Las Animas. Las Animas lost fifth consecutive game.

In the last two games of round 31 Puente Alto lost to CDE Talca on the opponent's court 70-83. CDU Concepcion managed to outperform Tinguiririca S.F. in a home game 80-75.

CD Castro - Las Animas 83-51

Ninth ranked CD Castro (14-18) crushed at home 8th ranked Las Animas (14-18) by 32 points 83-51, which is the biggest margin this round. CD Castro outrebounded Las Animas 52-23 including a 41-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. CD Castro brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Rodrigo Madera (208-90) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks. American forward Tyrone Lee (204-90, college: Grand Valley St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four CD Castro players scored in double figures. CD Castro's coach M De La Fuente felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Matias Sepulveda (-96) answered with 14 points and 4 steals and Francisco Figueroa added 12 points in the effort for Las Animas. CD Castro moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Las Animas. Las Animas lost fifth consecutive game.

Liga Nacional top team - Los Leones (24-8) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat twelfth ranked Universidad Catolica (6-26) in Santiago 90-84. Los Leones made 35-of-43 free shots (81.4 percent) during the game, while Universidad Catolica only scored seventeen points from the stripe. American swingman Brandon Bowdry (200-88, college: E.Michigan, agency: Inception Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international point guard Evandro Arteaga (178-83) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws). American forward John Dickson (198-90, college: Sacramento St.) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import power forward Brandon Crawford (201-84, college: Albion) added 19 points and 14 rebounds respectively for lost side. Very expected game when 10th ranked Puente Alto (11-21) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Espanol de Talca (17-13) 83-70. Espanol de Talca dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Puente Alto's 32. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a very good performance for American forward Dwight McCombs (203-89, college: Cent.Florida) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds. The former international guard Eduardo Sepulveda (186-86) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists for the winners. Four Espanol de Talca players scored in double figures. Venezuelan guard Jovanni Diaz (195-92) answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds and Venezuelan forward Lenin Lopez (198-91) added 5 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Puente Alto. Very predictable result when third ranked Universidad de Concepcion (20-10) defeated at home 11th ranked Tinguiririca S.F. (9-23) 80-75. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Universidad de Concepcion outrebounded Tinguiririca S.F. 53-29 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for Jamaican-American guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Carlos Lauler (185-96) contributed with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Scott is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market.
