Academia de la Montana is already in Ponce , Puerto Rico, to be the Colombian team in the Liga de Las Americas 2017, Academia will face a tough challenge in the Group D against powerful teams like the host Leones de Ponce with a stars loaded roster headed by Carlos Arroyo (188-PG-79, college: FIU, agency: Interperformances) and the american Hakim Warrick (206-F/C-82, college: Syracuse) a NBA and Euroleague experienced forward, Puerto Rico season has not started yet so the game rythm will be an issue of the Leones; Weber Bahia from Argentina with the classic Argentinean school and in great competitive rhythm currently ranked third in the south conference of the argentinean league with a 19-12 record the american big man Anthony Laveal Johnson (203-C-88, college: Fairfield) is their prime player; and the champions of Venezuela the Cocodrilos de Caracas just starting their season and without big americans names but still a threat thanks to the continuity of the process, Cesar Garcia (193-G/F-90, agency: Pro Sports) will be their leader.

The Academia management did a good job and assembled a competitive roster including the core of the Colombian players:

Guards:

Kelvin Pena (193-G-80, college: Southeastern CC, agency: Basket Management Solutions)
Gianluca Bacci (187-G-89)
Simon Granados (182-PG-93)
Gary Diaz (193-G-92)

Forwards:
Michael Jackson (190-G-87)
Jonathan Rodriguez (196-F-87, college: Campbell, agency: DTMones)
Mauricio Montano (188-SF-96)
Juan Fajardo (193-F-96)

Centers:
Kentrell Gransberry (206-C-85, college: S.Florida)
Divier Perez (201-F/C-89)
John Hernandez (207-C-84)
Cristian Arboleda (205-C-91)

Bacci was the last addition replacing Stalin Ortiz who agreed terms with the team but hurt his knee a couple of weeks before the travel, John Hernandez also arrived at last time to replace Michael Hinestroza.

Despite the management efforts , the Academias roster sill has one flaw: the lack of a stretch 4, Hernan Dario Giraldo probably will try to fill the hole using a small ball line up with Jackson as a 4 but will give up size at the defensive end.

Jonathan Rodriguez should be the primary offensive option but Kelvin 'Pollito' Pena and Michael Jackson will provide good support in the scoring.
Academia will play the first game on Friday vs the locals Leones de Ponce.

COLOMBIA FALL AGAINST PUERTO RICO UN THE DAY 2 OF THE AMERICUP 2017 - 2 months ago
COLOMBIA 72 VS PUERTO RICO 91 Colombia failed to repeat against Puerto Rico the good performance of the previous day, the Puerto Rican 5 had a 58% average beyond the arc, mostly thanks to a great ball movement, but also because took advantage that the Local defense helped too much in low post situations allowing Puerto Rican shooters to find open shots. Colombia fought, especially on the offensive boards but the second chances achieved with effort did not become un scoring, mainly becaus...   [read more]
