Panama beats Cuba for third place in Santo Domingo - Jul 13, 2010

2010 Centrobasket, Third place: CUBA - PANAMA 74-75

Panama grabbed the Bronze in Santo Domingo thanks to 74-75 thriller win against Cuba. With this victory Panama secured a spot for the Pan-American Games in Mexico next summer. Both teams booked a ticket for the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship (Pre-Olympic). Jose Lloreda (201-F/C-80, college: LSU) shined for Panama in this game with double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds. He was the MVP with valuation 22. Joel Munoz (179-G-80) secured a nice help with 18 points, while Leonardo Pomare (203-F-86, college: San Diego) added 10 points and 11 boards. In Cuba, Orestes Torres (202-C-87) collected 16 points, 7 boards and 6 assists. Andy Boffil (192-G/F-82) had 15 and Allen Jemmott (195-G/F-80) scored 11 pts.
Panama opened the game better. Jose Lloreda and his teammates dominated in the first ten minutes for 17-23 lead. Cuba drastically improved after that and limited Panamanians to just 12 points in Q2. On the other side, Cubans scored 19 for 36-35 turn at the half time. Panama replied after the breather and quickly grabbed back the lead. After 19-25 in third period Panama was 5 points up and there was ten minutes left in the game. Last quarter belonged to Cuba (19-15), but that was not enough. Panama was more concentrated in the finish to grab 74-75 victory and the Bronze in Santo Domingo.

Nautico KIA Tenerife (EBA) agreed terms with experienced 37-year old Cuban ex-international power forward Georffri Silvestre (202-104kg-79). The last time (12-13) he played at Maubeuge in French NM3 league. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Silvestre's team was regular season runner-up in Spanish EBA Group B in 2012. Albacete keeps Elias for another season - 2 months ago

Albacete Basket (EBA) re-signed experienced 35-year old Cuban forward Georvys Elias (199-103kg-81). He played there last season. In 29 EBA games he recorded 9.7ppg, 7.7rpg, 2.0apg and 1.1spg. Elias helped them to win the EBA Final Stage 4 title. The previous (14-15) season he played at Seguros Soliss Alcazar Basket where in 29 EBA games he averaged 12.4ppg, 8.0rpg, 1.6apg and 1.4spg. BC Timisoara tabs Adrian Diaz - 3 months ago

BC Timisoara (Liga Nationala) inked 23-year old American (has also Cuban passport) center Adrian Diaz (211-104kg-93). He just graduated from Florida International University (NCAA). Diaz has played there for the last three years. In 32 games he averaged impressive 15.3ppg, 7.8rpg and 2.9bpg last season.
