Argentina recorded a comfortable win over Cuba on the second day of Oscar Moglia Cup in Uruguay. Pablo Espinoza (195-F-87) stepped up with 22 points to lead the effort. Argentina improved at 2-0 record, while Cuba fell at 0-2. Argentina limited their opponents to just 8 points in the opening frame to pile up an 11-point buffer. The margin kept on growing throughout the second stanza. Argentina ensured a comfortable 19-point lead at the interval 38:19. The teams exchanged baskets throughout the third term. Argentina entered the fourth frame up by as many as 19 points and never looked back en route to the victory. Marcos Mata (202-F-86) notched 15 points, while Alejandro Alloatti (203-F/C-84) had 13 points in the win. Orestes Torres (202-C-87) replied with 11 points for Cuba. Yorman Polas (192-F-85) had 10 points in the losing effort.

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Cuban players, who play currently abroad. This week's number one is an international center Javier Justiz (205-92, agency: Pro Sports). He led Estudiantes Concordia to a victory over the ninth-ranked Hispano Americano de Rio Gallegos in the Argentinian LigaA in Tuesday night's game.
Here is the weekly review of the top performing Cuban players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international center Javier Justiz (205-92, agency: Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). He led Estudiantes Concordia to a victory over the ninth-ranked Hispano Americano de Rio Gallegos (17-31) 75-67 in the Argentinian LigaA in Tuesday night's game.
Justiz was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 20 rebounds. Justiz also added 2 blocks in 33 minutes on the court.
Estudiantes Concordia (32-16) is placed second in Norte group.
Justiz has relatively good stats this year: 13.8ppg, 8.9rpg, 1.2apg, 2.1bpg, 2FGP: 52.6%, 3FGP: 23.1% and FT: 60.7% in 46 games he played so far.
He is currently a member of the Cuban senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to former international guard Reynaldo Garcia (187-90, agency: DTMones, currently plays in Argentina). Garcia contributed to a San Martin Corrientes' victory against the sixth-ranked Obras Basket (23-24) 84-77 in the Argentinian LigaA last Monday.
He scored 15 points, made 6 passes and 3 steals.
San Martin Corrientes (34-13) is placed first in Norte group.
This season Garcia has relatively solid stats: 11.8ppg, 3.3rpg, 2.1apg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 52.7%, 3FGP: 28.2% and FT: 69.5%.
He played for the Cuban national team in 2009.
#3. The Cuban player who performed third best last week abroad was former international swingman Yorman Polas Bartolo (192-85, currently plays in Germany). Bartolo could not help Telekom Baskets (17-12) to beat Braunschweig (6-23).
He recorded 5 points in 27 minutes.
Telekom Baskets lost 84-92 on the road to the much lower-ranked (#16) Braunschweig.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
This year Bartolo averages: 7.3ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 63.3%(69-109), 3FGP: 16.7% and FT: 62.4% in 29 games.
He has a dual citizenship: Cuban and German.
Bartolo played for the Cuban national team six years ago.
#4. Center Enrique Ramos (202-89, agency: Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Puerto Rico) was not able to help Brujos in their game against Vaqueros (2-3) in the Puerto Rican BSN.
He scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
But Brujos was defeated 77-67 in Bayamon by the higher-ranked Vaqueros (#7).
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Ramos' overall stats this year are: 3.7ppg and 2.0rpg.
He used to play for the Cuban national team
back in 2012.
#5. Former international power forward Grismay Paumier (204-88, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for SO Maritime Boulogne (10-18) in their game against Chorale de Roanne (12-15) in the French ProB (second division). He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones.
Paumier recorded only 3 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks.
SO Maritime Boulogne was defeated 86-73 in Roanne by the higher-ranked Chorale de (#13).
It's Paumier's first season with the team.
He has reliable stats this year: 10.1ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.3bpg.
Paumier used to play for the Cuban national team
eight years ago.
#6. An experienced forward Georvys Elias (199-81, currently plays in Spain) helped Albacete win their game against the closely-ranked Agustinos-Leclerc (13-16) 81-63 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Sunday night.
Elias scored 10 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists.
Arcos Albacete Basket (9-20) is placed 14th in the LEB Silver.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial.
Elias' overall stats this season are: 9.8ppg, 6.7rpg, 2.3apg and 1.4spg.
He is a former international player as he played for the Cuban senior team eight years ago.
The list of other players, who all have Cuban passport but never been selected to any of Cuban national teams:
#1.Howard Sant-Roos (200-F-91, currently plays in Czech Republic) contributed to an easy victory against the second-ranked BK Usti nad Labem (14-18) crushing them 114-78 in the Czech Republic NBL on Tuesday night.
Sant-Roos recorded 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in 20 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 1-6. CEZ Basketball Nymburk (31-1) is placed first.
It was his team's tenth consecutive victory in a row.
Sant-Roos has reliable stats this year: 13.4ppg, 6.3rpg, 3.5apg and 2.2spg in 31 games he played so far.
#2. Experienced Yudniel Perez (189-G-84, agency: Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Puerto Rico) could not help one of league's weakest teams Atleticos in their last game on Monday. Despite his very good performance Atleticos was defeated 112-107 on the road by the higher-ranked Caciques (#3).
Perez was the second best scorer with 16 points. He also added 8 rebounds.
Perez has reliable stats this season: 10.5ppg and 3.3rpg.
#3.Ismael Romero (203-C-91, also represented by Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Puerto Rico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Yudniel Perez and both played together in the last Puerto Rican BSN game.
Romero was not able to help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Atleticos in their last game. Despite his very good performance Atleticos lost 107-112 in Humacao to the higher-ranked (#3) Caciques.
Romero scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in a mere 19 minutes.
Romero has reliable stats this year: 12.8ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.5spg in six games.
#4.Adrian Diaz (213-C-93, college: FIU, currently plays in Romania) was not able to secure a victory for BC Timisoara (13-15) in their last game on Thursday. Despite his very good performance the fifth-placed BC Timisoara (13-15) was defeated 85-81 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Oradea (#4) in the Places 1-6 group.
Diaz scored 16 points.
It's Diaz's first season with the team.
He has reliable stats this year: 11.3ppg and 5.0rpg.
Diaz has a dual citizenship: Cuban and American.
Strangely he has never played in Cuba.
#5.Juan Pineiro (193-G-90, another player represented by Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Puerto Rico) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Brujos (1-5) in their game against Indios (1-5) in the Puerto Rican BSN.
Pineiro scored 8 points and had 3 steals in 18 minutes.
Brujos lost 90-94 in Mayaguez to the higher-ranked (#9) Indios.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
This year Pineiro's overall stats are: 3.5ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.8apg in six games.
#6.Sigfredo Casero-Ortiz (185-G-97, currently plays in Belgium) managed to help Proximus Spirou Charleroi in a victory against the league outsider Liege Basket 80-76 in the Belgian Euromillions League last Tuesday.
He scored only 2 points in 9 minutes on the court.
This year Casero-Ortiz averages just 0.5ppg in four games.
He is another player who holds two passports: Cuban and Belgian.
#7.Yankiel Moreno (189-G-90, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Bondi Ferrara in their game against Verona in the Italian Serie A2 (second division).
Moreno scored 6 points and added 5 assists in 30 minutes.
His team lost 58-72.
This year Moreno's overall stats are: 7.4ppg, 3.1rpg, 6.1apg and 1.3spg in 25 games.
He has both Cuban and Italian nationalities.
Despite Moreno's Cuban passport, he previously played for the Italian U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Cuban team.
Pinar del Rio crowned champions in Cuba beating Matanzas 4-2 in the Final series. In Game 6 Pinar del Rio posted a 63-53 win to seal the trophy. Trailing 15-16 at the end of the first period, Pinar del Rio replied with a 16-11 run in the second frame and took a 31-27 halftime advantage.
