Cuba demonstrated great performance in Day One of the FIBA Americas Championship in Colombia. They cruised past Puerto Rico 50-67 for 1-0 record in Preliminary Group A. Participants of the same pool are also Chile, Argentina and host Colombia. Oyanaisy Gelis (172-G-83) and Taimy Fernandez (183-F-82) stepped up for the winners with 14 points each. Gelis also handed out 6 assists, while Fernandez grabbed 5 rebounds in this meeting. Clenia Noblet (191-C-87) helped with 12 points and 9 boards. In the loosing squad, Cynthia Valentin (173-G-84, agency: LBM Management, college: Indiana) top-scored with 15 points. Pinar del Rio are new Liga Superior champions. They snapped Santiago de Cuba dominance by defeating two-time defending champions in six games in the championship series.

She was awarded with Eurobasket.com All-Spanish LF2 Honorable Mention -12. In the past, Aties played in Italy and Hungary. She played for Cuban National Team at the World Championship in China ten years ago.
