Bahamas edged Cuba in their start of 2012 Centrobasket in Puerto Rico. Bahamas played better than the opponents and reached 80:68 win in the opener.
Bahamas took 19:16 advantage after the first 10 minutes and stayed in front until the end of the half. They added 20-16 in the second frame and enjoyed 39:32 halftime advantage. Cuba meanwhile replied with 22-18 in the third period and reduced to 5 points after 30 minutes. Bahamas however finished the game with 23-14 in the last stanza and won the opener.
Marvin Gray (178-G-83) top-scored for the winners with 16 points and Eugene Bain (195-F-88, college: Bellevue) nailed 10. Mitchell Johnson (196-F-85, college: Jarvis Christian), Bennet Davis (206-F-84, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: Northeastern) and Jean-Rony Cadeau (87) posted 8 each. Yudniel Perez (189-G-84) ended up with 19 points in the losing effort, while Joan Luis Haiti (200-C-82) poured in 14.

Here is the last round review presented by ESL. The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Tigres (7-3) in Camaguey on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by seventh ranked Ciego (4-6) 87-68. Ciego moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Tigres at the other side still keep top position with three games lost. We bring you last week's top performances from Cubans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international center Jasiel Rivero (204-93, agency: Pro Sports). He could not help Estudiantes Concordia (8-12) in their last game.
