Cuba lost another two games at Centrobasket 2012. The team was defeated by the hosts, Puerto Rico in Day 4 and finished the Qualifying Round with the loss from Panama.
In Day 4 Puerto Rico overcame Cuba 95:61. The hosts easily reached 27-20 after the first 10 minutes and added 16-9 in the second frame. Moreover they won the third quarter 26-12 and finished the game with 26-20. Sanchez Ricardo stepped up with 13 points for the winners, while Peter John Ramos (222-C-85), Rosario Michael and Alexander Galindo (200-F-85, college: FIU) had 12 each. Torres Orestes finished the game with 14 points in the losing effort.
Last night Panama edged Cuba 94:66 and finished second in Group A. Cuba started with 22-20 after the first 10 minutes and led 1 point at the halftime. The second half however was dominated only by one team-Panama. They needed 26-15 in the third period and finished the game with 28-10 in the last stanza. Josimar Ayarza (205-F-87, college: S.Mississippi) paced all the winners with 23 points and Ernesto Oglivie (199-F-89) as well as King Daniel netted 14 each. Luis Haiti Yoan responded with 19 points in the losing effort, while Torres Orestes added 14.

International Point guard Osmel Oliva (178-PG-87) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked Pinar del Rio, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 10. The 29-year old player was the main contributor (26 points, two rebounds and six assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Matanzas (#4, 5-4) 67-56. Seventh-ranked Ciego (1-8) gave a tough game to top-ranked Villa Clara (10-0) in Avila on Tuesday. The visitors from Santa Clara managed to secure only three-point victory 87-84. However their fans expected much easier game.
