Karel Guzman
Experienced Former international Guard Danys Torrientes (190-G-85) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's second-best Matanzas and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 2.
The 31-year old guard had the game-high 36 points for Matanzas in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Santiago (#8, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 98-94. Matanzas maintains the 2nd position in Cuban LSB. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Matanzas won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Torrientes had a remarkable 61.5% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He has many years of experience at Matanzas, through which he has constantly improved. Torrientes has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (6th best: 24.0ppg) and averages solid 6.5spg,52.0% FGP and 55.6% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young international forward Karel Guzman (188-F-95) of Capitalinos. Guzman impressed basketball fans with 38 points and 5 rebounds. Bad luck as Capitalinos was edged by Pinar del Rio (2-0) 92-89. The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Guzman is one of the most experienced players at Capitalinos and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 33.0ppg (#2). He also registered 4.5 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was former international forward Esteban Martinez (192-F-87) of Santiago (#8). Martinez got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. Despite Martinez's great performance Santiago lost 94-98 to Matanzas (#2, 2-0). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Santiago can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 2 games. Too bad for Martinez he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Martinez has individually a great season in Cuba. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 33.5ppg (best scorer) and rebounds with 7.0rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Andy Boffil (190-G/F-82) of Villa Clara - 25 points
5. Neslier Abreu (187-G-93) of Villa Clara - 22 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Eddy Hechevarria (193-SF-86) of Santiago - 18 points and 9 rebounds
7. Yoanis Baldo (191-F-89) of Camaguey - 19 points and 4 rebounds
8. Yosiel Monterrey (185-PG-88) of Pinar del Rio - 31 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Yosniel Moralez) of Matanzas - 19 points and 3 rebounds
10. Osvaldo Perez) of Villa Clara - 10 points and 4 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
