First defeat of Tigres (2-1) against Santiago (1-2) 87-76 was the most important game of the last round. The hosts trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 52-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Santiago dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Tigres' 48. Santiago forced 19 Tigres turnovers and outrebounded them 35-13 including a 24-7 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) who led his team to a victory with 44 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Eddy Siria contributed with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Yoimar Lopez (-96) answered with 17 points and 4 assists for Tigres. Tigres' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tigres will play next round against strong Pinar trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Santiago will try to continue on its current victory against Ciego in Avila.
Pinar defeated Guerreros in Rio 71-65. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 5 assists. Osmel Oliva helped adding 15 points and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Yuniskel Molina (185-93) with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Guerreros' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Guerreros will play next round against Guantanamo trying to get back on the winning streak. Pinar will try to continue on its current victory against Tigres at Camaguey.
An interesting game was also a 20-point home defeat of Guantanamo in a game versus Capitalinos (#5) 81-61. It was an exceptional evening for Hector Martinto who led the winners and scored 21 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Elvis Pons came up with 14 points for Guantanamo in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Capitalinos will meet at home Villa Clara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Guantanamo will play against Guerreros (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Avila was also worth to mention about. Villa Clara (3-0) played at the court of Ciego (0-3). Villa Clara managed to secure a 9-point victory 75-66. The best player for the winners was Andy Boffil who scored 23 points and 4 steals. Ciego's coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Villa Clara's next round opponent will be Capitalinos (#5) in La Habana. Ciego will play at home against Santiago and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

Ciego de Avila - Villa Clara 66-75

The game in Avila was also worth to mention about. Villa Clara (3-0) played at the court of Ciego (0-3). Villa Clara managed to secure a 9-point victory 75-66. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-13. But Ciego won second period 23-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Ciego outrebounded Villa Clara 33-11 including a 26-8 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Andy Boffil (190-82) who scored 23 points and 4 steals. International center Yoel Cubillas (204-94) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Villa Clara players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Vanier Reyes (193-83) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and guard Dainier Martinez (184-96) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Ciego's coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Villa Clara's next round opponent will be Capitalinos (#5) in La Habana. Ciego will play at home against Santiago and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

Capitalinos outrebounded Guantanamo 31-10 including a 22-8 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pinar defeated Guerreros in Rio 71-65. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Guerreros won third quarter 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Pinar won last quarter 23-19.
