Esteban
Martinez
29-year old forward Esteban Martinez (192-F-87) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Santiago and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 3.
He had the game-high 44 points adding seven rebounds for Santiago in his team's victory, helping them to beat Camaguey (#3, 2-1) 87-76. Santiago is placed at 6th position in Cuban league. Santiago is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 1-2 record. Martinez just recently signed at Santiago, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Martinez has impressive league stats. He is league's best scorer averaging so far 37.0ppg and leads league in rebounds with 7.0rpg. Martinez is in league's top in assists (9th best: 0.3apg) and averages solid 3.3spg and 60.6% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Vanier Reyes (193-G-83) of Ciego de Avila. He is a guard in his 7th season at Ciego de Avila. In the last game Reyes recorded impressive double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Bad luck as Ciego de Avila lost that game 66-75 to Villa Clara (3-0). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Reyes is one of the most experienced players at Ciego de Avila and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to center Yoel Cubillas (204-C-94) of league's second-best Villa Clara. Cubillas scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He was a key player of Villa Clara, leading his team to a 75-66 win against Ciego de Avila (#7, 0-3). Villa Clara started extremely well this year. They recorded 3 victories without losing a single game. Cubillas turns to be one of the very best players in the league while he is also a leader of the top team having his eyes on the championship title. Cubillas has a very solid season. In 3 games in Cuba he scored 11.3ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Hector Martinto (197-F-94) of Capitalinos - 21 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Eddy Siria) of Santiago - 14 points and 10 rebounds
6. Yosiel Monterrey (185-PG-88) of Pinar del Rio - 23 points and 5 assists
7. Yoimar Lopez (96) of Camaguey - 17 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Daniel Simon (185-G-96) of Capitalinos - 10 points and 8 rebounds
9. Danys Torrientes (190-G-85) of Matanzas - 21 points and 3 rebounds
10. Yoanis Soria (195-G/F-86) of Guantanamo - 18 points

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
