LSB Round 4: Tigres lose to Pinar in the game between Top 4 teams - Feb 12, 2017

The game between Top Four teams took place in Camaguey. 3rd ranked host Tigres (2-2) lost to top-ranked Pinar (4-0) 84-79. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Pinar forced 22 Tigres turnovers and outrebounded them 30-17. 25 personal fouls committed by Tigres helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Osmel Oliva (178-87) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists and the former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) who added 18 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side point guard Vladimir Francis (185-83) responded with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Pinar have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record, which they share with Villa Clara. Tigres at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Santiago. Pinar is looking forward to face league's second-placed Villa Clara in Santa Clara in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tigres will play against Guerreros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The winners were led by the former international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) who scored that evening 32 points and 8 rebounds and Roigelis Ochoa supported him with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Even 24 points and 6 rebounds by guard Alfredo Hernandez (192-85) did not help to save the game for Ciego. Ciego's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Santiago moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Camaguey. Defending champion Ciego still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Guantanamo. Santiago will play against Capitalinos (#6) in La Habana in the next round. Ciego will play at home against Guantanamo and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Loser Guantanamo still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Ciego de Avila. Guerreros will meet Tigres (#5) in the next round. Guantanamo will play against Ciego in Avila and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Pinar del Rio. Capitalinos at the other side dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. Villa Clara's next round opponent will be league's leader Pinar in Rio and it will be for sure the game of the week. Capitalinos will play on the road against Santiago (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The most impressive stats of the last round was 14 points and 8 rebounds by Neysser Coutin of Capitalinos.

Capitalinos - Villa Clara 95-105

The game in La Habana was also worth to mention about. Top-ranked Villa Clara (4-0) played at the court of 5th ranked Capitalinos (1-3). Villa Clara defeated Capitalinos 105-95. Villa Clara dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Capitalinos' 44. Villa Clara forced 22 Capitalinos turnovers. Strangely Capitalinos outrebounded Villa Clara 26-9. 34 personal fouls committed by Capitalinos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a very good performance for the former international swingman Andy Boffil (190-82) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 4 steals. Guard Neslier Abreu (187-93) contributed with 23 points and 5 steals for the winners. International forward Karel Guzman (188-95) replied with 22 points and Neysser Coutin (-96) added 14 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Capitalinos. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Capitalinos' coach Rainel Panfet tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game.
