There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LSB.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Pinar (4-1) in Rio on Tuesday night. Hosts were edged by Villa Clara (5-0) 80-77. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Pinar. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Pinar trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 26-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 77-80 at the end of the game. Villa Clara forced 23 Pinar turnovers and outrebounded them 70-20 including a 64-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Andy Boffil (190-82) who scored 21 points and 4 assists. Osvaldo Perez chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. The former international point guard Osmel Oliva (178-87) produced 27 points, 8 assists and 5 steals for the hosts. Undefeated Villa Clara have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Pinar at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. Villa Clara are looking forward to face Tigres (#3) in Camaguey in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Pinar will play on the road against Ciego in Avila and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Guerreros (3-2) against fifth ranked Tigres (3-2) on Tuesday night. Visiting Guerreros were defeated by Tigres in Camaguey 82-64. Forward Yoanis Baldo (191-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Julio Sanchez contributed with 18 points for the winners. Lazro Sanchez answered with 20 points for Guerreros. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tigres moved-up to third place, which they share with Matanzas. Tigres will play against league's leader Villa Clara in Santa Clara in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Guerreros will play at home against Capitalinos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Ciego can celebrate their first win this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Guantanamo (0-5) 77-69 on Tuesday. Luis Castillo stepped up and scored 18 points and 7 steals for the winners. Raudelis Guerra responded with 18 points. Guantanamo's coach Yuniel Cruz rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains seventh place with 1-4 record. It was Guantanamo's fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Ciego will meet at home league's second-placed Pinar in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Guantanamo will play against Santiago (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 5 Capitalinos defeated Santiago in La Habana 85-79.

Camaguey - Matanzas 82-64

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Guerreros (3-2) against fifth ranked Tigres (3-2) on Tuesday night. Visiting Guerreros were defeated by Tigres in Camaguey 82-64. The game without a history. Tigres led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Guerreros' 30. They outrebounded Guerreros 22-11. Forward Yoanis Baldo (191-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Julio Sanchez (200-90) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Four Tigres players scored in double figures. Lazro Sanchez answered with 20 points and the former international guard Yuniskel Molina (185-93) added 10 points in the effort for Guerreros. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tigres moved-up to third place, which they share with Matanzas. Santiago - Capitalinos 79-85

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Santiago (2-3) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Capitalinos (2-3) 85-79 on Tuesday. Strangely Santiago outrebounded Capitalinos 27-12 including a 18-5 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Capitalinos made 8 blocks. International forward Karel Guzman (188-95) stepped up and scored 38 points (!!!) and 6 steals for the winners and Neysser Coutin (-96) chipped in 15 points and 5 steals. Guard Roigelis Ochoa (190-93) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Julio Heredia (183-93) scored 16 points and 6 assists. Four Santiago players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Capitalinos moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Santiago. Capitalinos will meet higher ranked Guerreros (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santiago will play against Guantanamo and hope to secure a win.
