34-year old swingman Andy Boffil (190-G/F-82) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's best team Villa Clara and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 12.
He had the game-high 23 points for Villa Clara in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Pinar del Rio (#2, 10-2) 75-74. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Villa Clara to consolidate first place in the Cuban league. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. It's already very far into the season and Villa Clara keeps a perfect 12-0 record. Boffil has many years of experience at Villa Clara, through which he has constantly improved. Boffil has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (2nd best: 28.1ppg) and averages solid 5.5spg and 60.1% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Yosiel Monterrey (185-PG-88) of league's second-best Pinar del Rio. He is former international guard in his second season at Pinar del Rio. In the last game Monterrey recorded impressive 32 points, 2 rebounds and 8 assists. Bad luck as Pinar del Rio was edged by league's leader Villa Clara (#1, 12-0) 75-74. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Pinar del Rio still maintains its place in the top 2 of the standings, even despite this loss. It was just his team's 2nd loss this season, while they won 10 other games. Monterrey is well-known at Pinar del Rio and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.7ppg (#6). He also recorded 4.4 assists per game.

Third place about best performers goes to swingman Elvis Pons (194-G/F-83) of Guantanamo (#8). Pons scored 24 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Pons' great performance Guantanamo lost 68-69 to the higher-ranked Ciego de Avila (#5, 3-8). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Guantanamo can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 11 games. Too bad for Pons he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Pons has individually a great season in Cuba. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 5.4rpg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Yuniskel Molina (185-G-93) of Matanzas - 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Osvaldo Perez) of Villa Clara - 18 points and 8 rebounds
6. Julio Heredia (183-PG-93) of Santiago - 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Dainier Martinez (184-G-96) of Ciego de Avila - 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Reider Giron (188-G/F-91) of Santiago - 9 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists
9. Yoimar Lopez (96) of Camaguey - 17 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Yasmany Deschapelles (181-PG-85) of Matanzas - 11 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
