Esteban
Martinez
Former international Forward Esteban Martinez (192-F-87) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Santiago, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 13.
The 29-year old player was the main contributor (44 points, nine rebounds) to his team's victory, helping them to crush, the league's bottom-ranked team Guantanamo (#8, 0-12) with 18-point margin 110-92. Santiago maintains the 6th position in Cuban LSB. Santiago is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 4-8 record. In the team's last game Martinez had a remarkable 69.0% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Santiago, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Esteban Martinez has solid league stats. He is league's best scorer averaging so far 29.8ppg. Martinez is in league's top in assists (9th best: 0.5apg) and averages impressive 2.8spg and 55.0% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 33-year old Elvis Pons (194-G/F-83) of Guantanamo. Pons had a very good evening with 39 points and 8 rebounds. Bad luck as Guantanamo lost that game 92-110 to slightly higher-ranked Santiago (#6, 4-8). Guantanamo are still at the very bottom. 12 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. Pons is a newcomer at Guantanamo, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.0ppg (#8). He also registered 5.6 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was Osvaldo Perez of league's top team Villa Clara. Perez got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. He went also for nine rebounds . He was a key player of Villa Clara, leading his team to a 81-74 win against Camaguey (#7, 0-12). Villa Clara have amazing season winning all 13 games without a single defeat. Perez turns to be one of the very best players in the league while he is also a leader of the top team having his eyes on the championship title. Perez has a great season in Cuba. After 13 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 6.0rpg (7th best). He also has 5.3spg and FGP: 51.4%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Yuniskel Molina (185-G-93) of Matanzas - 28 points and 6 rebounds
5. William Granda (189-SG-85) of Ciego de Avila - 23 points and 2 rebounds
6. Yoel Cubillas (204-C-94) of Villa Clara - 15 points and 13 rebounds
7. Yuset Tito (197-F-92) of Guantanamo - 14 points and 9 rebounds
8. Julio Heredia (183-PG-93) of Santiago - 17 points and 13 assists
9. Osmel Oliva (178-PG-87) of Pinar del Rio - 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Yoimar Lopez (96) of Camaguey - 17 points and 2 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
