Here is the weekly review of the top performing Cuban players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Reynaldo Garcia (187-90, agency: DTMones, currently plays in Argentina). He led San Martin Corrientes to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked Quimsa (22-18) 93-78 in the Argentinian LigaA last Wednesday. Garcia scored 14 points and added 3 passes. San Martin Corrientes (28-10) is placed first in Norte group. It's Garcia's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 11.5ppg, 3.4rpg, 2.1apg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 51.2%, 3FGP: 28.8% and FT: 70.2%. Garcia played for the Cuban senior national team eight years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international swingman Yorman Polas Bartolo (192-85, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup). He led his German team Telekom Baskets to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked Ironi Nahariya crushing them 89-68 in the FIBA Europe Cup on Wednesday night. Bartolo recorded 15 points in 29 minutes. Telekom Baskets Bonn (5-1) is placed first in group M. This year Bartolo averages: 6.5ppg, 3.8rpg, 1.9apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 42.9%, 3FGP: 47.4%(9-19) and FT: 63.6% in 13 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Cuban and German. Bartolo played for the Cuban national team in 2011.

   #3. The Cuban player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Javier Justiz (205-92, agency: Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). He led Estudiantes Concordia to a victory against the ninth-ranked Atenas (13-24) 77-71 in the Argentinian LigaA in Tuesday night's game. Justiz recorded 11 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Estudiantes Concordia (27-13) is placed second in Norte group. This season Justiz has relatively solid stats: 13.1ppg, 8.5rpg, 1.2apg, 2.0bpg, 2FGP: 51.8%, 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 60.8%. He is also a member of the Cuban senior national team.

   #4. Power forward Grismay Paumier (204-88, currently plays in France) could not help SO Maritime Boulogne (8-14) in their last game. Despite Paumier's very good performance SO Maritime Boulogne lost 80-86 on the road to the much higher-ranked (#5) ADA Blois. He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Paumier also added 6 rebounds in 26 minutes. Paumier has reliable stats this year: 11.3ppg, 7.5rpg and 1.3bpg in 22 games. He used to play for the Cuban national team back in 2009.

   #5. An experienced former international center Rangel Ramirez (206-75, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help AEC Collblanc (10-9) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance the sixth-placed AEC Collblanc (10-9) was defeated 71-56 at home by the higher-ranked Menorca (#3) in the Group C-A. Ramirez was the second best scorer with 11 points. He also added 9 rebounds and made 3 blocks. Ramirez's overall stats this season are: 7.2ppg and 6.2rpg. He used to play for the Cuban national team eleven years ago.

   #6. Power forward Georffri Silvestre (202-79, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Nautico KIA Tenerife (13-8) in their game against Azuqueca (15-8) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division), despite his very good performance on Saturday night. Silvestre was the top scorer with 20 points. He also added 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. But Nautico KIA Tenerife (#6) lost 89-97 on the opponent's court to the higher-ranked (#5) Azuqueca in the Group B. Silvestre's stats this year are: 14.5ppg and 5.5rpg in 21 games. He is a former international player as he played for the Cuban senior team seventeen years ago.

   #7. Former international forward Georvys Elias (199-81, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Arcos Albacete Basket in a 2-point victory against the closely-ranked Gandia (7-17) 89-87 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Sunday. Elias scored only 4 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 27 minutes. Arcos Albacete Basket (6-18) is placed second from the bottom (#15) in the LEB Silver. They ended the series of eight consecutive loses. This year Elias' overall stats are: 9.9ppg, 6.7rpg, 2.4apg and 1.6spg in 24 games. He used to play for the Cuban national team eight years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Cuban passport but never been selected to any of Cuban national teams:

   #1. Howard Sant-Roos (200-F-91, currently plays in Czech Republic) led CEZ Nymburk to a victory over the fourth-ranked USK Praha (14-12) 81-71 in the Czech Republic NBL in Saturday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Sant-Roos scored 15 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, passed 3 assists and added 3 blocks in 36 minutes. CEZ Basketball Nymburk (26-1) is placed first in Places 1-6 group. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Sant-Roos has relatively good stats this year: 13.3ppg, 5.5rpg, 3.3apg and 2.2spg in 24 games he played so far.

   #2. Juan Ferrales (188-G-91, college: Barry, currently plays in Norway) was the main contributor in Kongsberg's victory against the eighth-ranked Tromso (9-18) 76-61 in the Norwegian BLNO on Sunday night. Ferrales was MVP of the game. He recorded 25 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Ferrales' second season in pro basketball. Kongsberg Miners (23-4) is placed first in the BLNO. Ferrales has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 23.5ppg, 5.6rpg, 5.4apg and 1.8spg. Ferrales has a dual citizenship: Cuban and American. Strangely he has never played in Cuba.

   #3. Adrian Diaz (213-C-93, college: FIU, currently plays in Romania) could not help BC Timisoara (11-10) in their last game. Despite Diaz's good performance the fifth-placed BC Timisoara (11-10) was badly defeated 92-73 at home by the higher-ranked (#4) Oradea in the Places 1-6 group. He was the top scorer with 13 points. Diaz also added 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 23 minutes. It was BC Timisoara's third consecutive loss in a row. This year Diaz's overall stats are: 9.8ppg and 4.8rpg in 22 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Cuban and American. Strangely Diaz has never played in Cuba.

   #4. Yankiel Moreno (189-G-90, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Bondi Ferrara to win against the fifth-ranked F.Kontatto BO (14-10) 91-89 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) in Sunday night's game. Moreno scored 5 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 7 assists. Bondi Ferrara (10-14) is placed 12th in East group. Moreno's overall stats this season are: 7.1ppg, 2.8rpg, 5.9apg and 1.2spg. He has both Cuban and Italian nationalities.

   #5. Sigal Benitez (193-G-94, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Arenys in their game against Olivar (8-12) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division). Benitez cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points. Arenys (#8) was defeated 76-68 on their home court in Arenys del Mar by the lower-ranked Olivar (#9) in the Group C-A. Benitez's total stats this season are: 5.4ppg and 2.1rpg.   

Karel Guzman
Ciclista inks Karel Guzman, ex Capitalinos - 13 days ago
Ciclista Juninense (TNA) signed 22-year old Cuban international forward Karel Guzman (188-95). He played this summer at Capitalinos in Cuban LSB league. In 14 games he had very impressive stats: 17.4ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.6apg and 2.8spg. Guzman helped them to make it to the semifinals. Quite impressive season as he was named to All-Cuban LSB 2nd Team. He also played that season for Capitalinos in Cuban league. A very spectacular season in his career as he was named to Latinbasket.c   [read more]

Howard Sant-Roos (ex CEZ Nymburk) is a newcomer at Darussafaka - 1 month ago
Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul (BSL) strengthened their roster with addition of 26-year old Cuban forward Howard Sant-Roos (200-81kg-91). He has played for the last two years at CEZ Nymburk in NBL league in Czech Republic. In 40 games he recorded 13.6ppg, 6.0rpg, 3.4apg and 2.1spg last season. Marvin Cairo (ex CAN Oruro) signs at Barcelona - 1 month ago
Barcelona Sporting Club (National League) landed 26-year old Cuban swingman Marvin Cairo (201-95kg-91, agency: Pro Sports). He played in the summer at CAN Oruro in Bolivian Libobasquet. Cairo's team made it to the Ecuadorian National League Semifinals in 2016. He is a very experienced player. Cairo has played also professionally in Argentina (Lanus), Mexico (Fuerza Regia and Soles), Ecuador (Universidad Tecnologica Equinoc. Quito and Importadora) and Cuba (Capitalinos).
