Esteban
Martinez
Former international Forward Esteban Martinez (192-F-87) had a very impressive game in the last round for Santiago, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 20.
The 29-year old player was the main contributor (39 points) to his team's victory, helping them to crush, the league's bottom-ranked team Guantanamo (#8, 0-19) with 17-point margin 104-87. Santiago maintains the 5th position in Cuban LSB. Santiago is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 8-11 record. In the team's last game Martinez had a remarkable 63.2% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Santiago, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Esteban Martinez has solid league stats. He is league's best scorer averaging so far 28.3ppg. Martinez is in league's top in assists (7th best: 0.4apg) and averages impressive 2.6spg and 56.4% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was another Santiago's star - Luis Bueno. Bueno had a very good evening with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Of course together with Martinez he helped Santiago with another comfortable win 104-87 over Guantanamo (#8, 0-19) being unquestionably team leader. Santiago's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-11 record. Bueno is one of the most experienced players at Santiago and similarly like Esteban Martinez has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was guard Neslier Abreu (187-G-93) of league's top team Villa Clara. Abreu scored 15 points and passed seven assists. He was a key player of Villa Clara, leading his team to a 77-72 win against the lower-ranked Camaguey (#7, 1-18). Villa Clara confirms their top position in the standings. Abreu has a great season in Cuba. After 18 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 3.5apg (3rd best). He also has 4.2spg and FGP: 58.6%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Osvaldo Perez) of Villa Clara - 15 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Yoel Cubillas (204-C-94) of Villa Clara - 8 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Jaciel Martinez (190-SF-91) of Pinar del Rio - 16 points and 6 rebounds
7. Jasul Rivero (203-F/C-93) of Capitalinos - 24 points and 5 rebounds
8. Yaudelier Suarez (193-F-91) of Pinar del Rio - 14 points and 3 rebounds
9. Roigelis Ochoa (190-G-93) of Santiago - 12 points and 15 rebounds
10. Elvis Pons (194-G/F-83) of Guantanamo - 19 points and 7 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
