The Regular Season in LSB just ended.

Sixth-ranked Ciego (7-13) made lots of trouble for third ranked Capitalinos (14-6) in Avila on Tuesday. The visitors from La Habana managed to secure only two-point victory 54-52. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ciego. Capitalinos forced 19 Ciego turnovers. Strangely Ciego outrebounded Capitalinos 36-17 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Jasul Rivero (203-93) who scored 25 points. Power forward Arlen Alorda (198-86) chipped in 6 points and 5 rebounds. Capitalinos' coach Rainel Panfet used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Vanier Reyes (193-83) who recorded 8 points and 14 rebounds. Capitalinos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 14-6 record having five points less than leader Villa Clara. Defending champion Ciego keeps the sixth position with 13 games lost.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Santa Clara. First ranked Villa Clara faced 4th placed Guerreros. Host Villa Clara (18-3) defeated guests from (13-7) 85-72. It was a good game for international center Yoel Cubillas (204-94) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). Neslier Abreu contributed with 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. The former international guard Yuniskel Molina (185-93) answered with 19 points and 8 rebounds for Guerreros. Guerreros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Villa Clara maintains first place with 18-3 record. Guerreros at the other side keep the fourth position with seven games lost.
Bottom-ranked Guantanamo (0-20) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 73-64 loss to seventh ranked Tigres (2-18) in Guantanamo on Tuesday evening. Yoanis Baldo stepped up and scored 11 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Tigres' coach Juan Morales allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Elvis Pons with 25 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Tigres maintains seventh place with 2-18 record. Loser Guantanamo still closes the standings.

Villa Clara - Matanzas 85-72

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Santa Clara. First ranked Villa Clara faced 4th placed Guerreros. Host Villa Clara (18-3) defeated guests from (13-7) 85-72. Villa Clara well out of reach of Guerreros shooting 72.5 percent from the field. They also forced 21 Guerreros turnovers. Villa Clara shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 88.2 percentage. It was a good game for international center Yoel Cubillas (204-94) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). Guard Neslier Abreu (187-93) contributed with 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. Four Villa Clara players scored in double figures. The former international guard Yuniskel Molina (185-93) answered with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Yosniel Moralez added 11 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Guerreros. Guerreros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Villa Clara maintains first place with 18-3 record. Pinar del Rio - Santiago 79-61

The former international point guard Osmel Oliva (178-87) nailed 24 points for the winning side and Diagmani Vazquez (192-87) accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Pinar players scored in double figures. The former international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) came up with 24 points and guard Roigelis Ochoa (190-93) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Santiago in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinar maintains second place with 15-6 record having just three points less than leader Villa Clara. Santiago at the other side keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost.
