International Center Yoel Cubillas (204-C-94) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader Villa Clara and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 21.
The 22-year old center had the game-high 22 points adding eight rebounds and three assists for Villa Clara in his team's victory, helping them to beat Matanzas (#4, 13-7) 85-72. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Villa Clara to consolidate first place in the Cuban LSB. Villa Clara have a solid 18-3 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Cubillas as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Cubillas has impressive league stats. He leads league in rebounds with 8.4rpg. Cubillas is in league's top in and averages solid 2.0bpg,4.1spg and 58.6% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 33-year old swingman Elvis Pons (194-G/F-83) of Guantanamo. Pons impressed basketball fans with 25 points and 3 rebounds. Bad luck as Guantanamo lost that game 64-73 to slightly higher-ranked Camaguey (#7, 2-18). Guantanamo are still at the very bottom. 20 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. Pons is a newcomer at Guantanamo and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.6ppg (#6). He also registered 5.7 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was another Villa Clara's star - Jorge Romero (186-G-92). Romero scored 0 points. He was another key player of Villa Clara, helping his team with a 85-72 easy win against #4 ranked Matanzas in a game of the week. Villa Clara confirms their top position in the standings. Romero has a very solid season. In 12 games in Cuba he scored 0.0ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jasul Rivero (203-F/C-93) of Capitalinos - 25 points
5. Diagmani Vazquez (192-SG-87) of Pinar del Rio - 16 points and 5 rebounds
6. Yuniskel Molina (185-G-93) of Matanzas - 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Vanier Reyes (193-G-83) of Ciego de Avila - 8 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Osmel Oliva (178-PG-87) of Pinar del Rio - 24 points and 3 rebounds
9. Yosiel Monterrey (185-PG-88) of Pinar del Rio - 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Yoisel Jimenez (180-G-89) of Camaguey - 14 points and 2 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
