Jasiel Rivero
Jasiel Rivero
#1. This week's number one is an international center Jasiel Rivero (204-93, agency: Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). He led Estudiantes Concordia to a surprising victory over the fifth-ranked Quimsa (24-14) 81-75 in the Argentinian LigaA last Friday. Rivero was MVP of the game. He scored 26 points (!!!) and grabbed 4 rebounds. Estudiantes Concordia (16-22) is placed 13th in the LigaA. Rivero has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.6ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 60.4%(203-336), 3FGP: 32.2% and FT: 71.8%. Rivero is currently a member of the Cuban senior national team.

Javier Justiz
Javier Justiz
#2. Second place goes to an international center Javier Justiz (205-92, also represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). He led San Lorenzo to an easy victory against the 17th-ranked Penarol (14-24) crushing them 101-69 in the Argentinian LigaA on Tuesday night. Justiz had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting the same number of rebounds. He also added 2 blocks in 20 minutes. San Lorenzo de Almagra (30-8) is placed first in the LigaA. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Justiz's first season with the team. Justiz has relatively good stats this year: 11.8ppg, 6.6rpg, 1.5bpg, 2FGP: 63.4%(192-303) and FT: 64.2% in 40 games he played so far. He is in the roster of the Cuban senior national team.

Reynaldo Garcia
Reynaldo Garcia
#3. The Cuban player who performed third best last week abroad was former international guard Reynaldo Garcia (187-90, agency: DTMones, currently plays in Argentina). Garcia could not help San Martin Corrientes (29-9) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance San Martin Corrientes was edged 69-67 on the road by the much lower-ranked Boca Juniors (#15). Garcia was the second best scorer with 14 points. He also added 8 rebounds and dished 5 assists. This season Garcia has relatively solid stats: 13.0ppg, 4.7rpg, 3.8apg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 51.0%, 3FGP: 37.5% and FT: 73.3%. He played for the Cuban national team nine years ago.

#4. Bartolo was the second best scorer with 17 points. He also added 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. But Telekom Baskets lost 82-90 in Bamberg to the lower-ranked (#6) Brose Baskets. This year Bartolo's overall stats are: 8.7ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg in 36 games. He has a dual citizenship: Cuban and German. Bartolo used to play for the Cuban national team back in 2011.

Karel Guzman

Mensia scored 7 points in only 13 minutes. GECR Indalo was edged 72-70 in Junin by the lower-ranked (#9) Argentino. This year Mensia's total stats are: 4.7ppg and 1.7rpg in 41 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Cuban National Team roster.

Georvys Elias
Georvys Elias
#7. Former international forward Georvys Elias (199-81, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Albacete (18-12) in their game against Real Canoe (14-16) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Despite his very good performance on Friday night Elias recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds. Elias has averaged so far 9.6ppg, 5.6rpg and 2.4apg. He used to play for the Cuban national team nine years ago.

Lisvan Valdez
Lisvan Valdez
#8. Power forward Lisvan Valdez (200-88, currently plays in El Salvador) couldn't help Halcones (15-3) in their game against Brujos Izalco (10-8) in the Salvadorean Liga MB (second division), despite his very good performance in Sunday night's game. Valdez had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 5 assists (made all of his six free throws) in 40 minutes. But the league leader Halcones lost 73-79 in Izalco to the lower-ranked (#7) Brujos. They ended the series of nine consecutive victories. Valdez has very impressive stats this year: 22.8ppg, 8.6rpg, 2.9apg, 1.4bpg and 1.3spg in 28 games. He plays currently for the Cuban national team.

The list of other players, who all have Cuban passport but never been selected to any of Cuban national teams:

#1. Howard Sant-Roos (200-F-91, currently plays in Turkey) could not help Darussafaka (18-12) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Darussafaka lost 77-83 at home to the much lower-ranked (#14) Gaziantep. Sant-Roos was the second best scorer with 17 points. He also added 4 boards, dished 6 assists and stole 6 balls in 33 minutes. It was Darussafaka's first loss after three consecutive victories. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Sant-Roos' first season with the team. This year Sant-Roos averages: 7.4ppg, 4.7rpg, 3.5apg and 1.3spg in 27 games he played so far.

#2. Ismael Romero (203-C-91, agency: Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Puerto Rico) led Vaqueros to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Piratas (2-3) 105-91 in the Puerto Rican BSN on Wednesday night. He was the best player in that game. Romero scored 22 points, grabbed 7 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls. Vaqueros de Bayamon (4-1) is placed first in the BSN. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Romero has reliable stats this year: 14.6ppg, 4.4rpg and 2.6spg.

#3. Adrian Diaz (213-C-93, college: FIU, currently plays in Romania) was not able to help BC Timisoara (20-13) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the fifth-placed BC Timisoara (20-13) lost 69-76 on the road to the higher-ranked (#4) Steaua CSM in the Places 1-6 group. Diaz was the top scorer with 19 points. He also added 8 rebounds and made 5 blocks in 30 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Diaz's second season in pro basketball. Diaz has reliable stats this year: 14.0ppg, 5.7rpg and 1.2apg in 37 games. He has a dual citizenship: Cuban and American. Strangely Diaz has never played in Cuba.

#4. Yunio Barrueta (198-F/G-93, agency: Inception Sports, college: Barry, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Denain Voltaire (16-17) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Barrueta's very good performance Denain Voltaire was defeated 83-72 in Aix-les-Bains by the lower-ranked Aix-Maurienne (#11). He was the second best scorer with 15 points (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line). Barrueta's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Barrueta has reliable stats this season: 13.1ppg and 3.1rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Cuban and American. Strangely Barrueta has never played in Cuba.

#5. Yankiel Moreno (189-G-90, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a Kleb Ferrara's victory against the second-ranked Givova Scafati (20-10) 90-79 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) last Wednesday. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and making 10 passes in 34 minutes. Kleb Basket Ferrara (17-13) is placed seventh in East group. Moreno has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 3.1rpg, 4.8apg and 1.5spg in 36 games. He has both Cuban and Italian nationalities. Despite Moreno's Cuban passport, he previously played for the Italian U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Cuban team.

#6. Juan Pineiro (193-G-90, also represented by Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Puerto Rico) managed to help Humacao Caciques to win against the league outsider Atleticos 98-90 in the Puerto Rican BSN last Wednesday. Pineiro scored only one point. This season Pineiro averages only 0.5ppg.
