Obras Basket Buenos Aires (LigaA) signed experienced 35-year old American point guard Andre Barrett (180-82, college: Seton Hall). He played last summer at Indios de San Francisco in LNB league in Dominican Republic, but left. But in three games he had just 1.7ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.7apg. The last season Barrett played at Toros in Venezuelan LPB where in 40 games he recorded very impressive stats: 17.3ppg, 3.0rpg, 5.1apg (top 3) and 1.0spg. Great season as he was named to Latinbasket.com Venezuelan LPB All-Imports Team, 2nd Team and to the All-Star Game. In 2005 (a year after he left the college) Barrett was drafted by Florida Flame (D-League) as #1 pick overall. The former Seton Hall University staris in his 13th (hopefully lucky) season in pro basketball. He won Spanish ACB championship title in 2009. Barrett was a member of USA international program for some years. He was called to USA Senior National Team back in 2003 and previously for University National Team in 2001. Barrett is quite experienced player. He has played in four different countries on three different continents (Europe, Latin America and of course North America). Barrett has played previously professionally in France (Chorale de Roanne), NBA (Cleveland Cavaliers, LA Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies), D-League (Sioux Falls Skyforce, Salt Lake City Stars, Austin Spurs, Northern Arizona Suns and Maine Red Claws) and Spain (FC Barcelona). It's very possible he may end his playing career at Obras Basket. Barrett could be described:
Oustanding dribbler and a good passer with either hand, super quick on threes release. The first thing you see is that he is very small, but he is good. He plays beyond his years with his ability to see the floor and think the game, while his speed and quickness are second to none. He pushes the ball up the floor and he just makes everyone better and happy.
Outlook (by NBADraft.TK):
Positives: Great floor general. Excellent court vision and passing skills. Great ball handling skills as well. Pure point guard that knows what it takes to get his teammates involved. Barrett has also become a good scorer in college. Good leadership skills and basketball instincts. Good quickness and overall speed. Good 3 pt shooter. Has had a great solid career at Seton Hall.
Negatives: You hate to see great players like Barrett not get a chance to play in the NBA. Really skilled point but NBA players are still not sold on him because of his height. That is his biggest detriment. Otherwise everything else about Barrett is what everybody desires in a point guard.
