Here is the weekly review of the top performing Dominican Republic players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international forward Eulis Baez (198-82, college: W.Illinois), who plays in the Spanish ACB. He could not help G.Canaria 2014 (2-1) to beat Caja Laboral (2-1). Baez scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 18 minutes on the court. It was his first game for G.Canaria 2014 this season. G.Canaria 2014 was badly defeated 80-64 at home by the higher-ranked (#6) Caja Laboral. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Baez played for the Dominican Republic senior national team three years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Adris Deleon (180-84, college: E.Washington). He contributed to a Wollongong Hawks' victory against the fifth-ranked Cairns Taipans (1-1) 68-58 in the Australian NBL in Friday night's game. Deleon scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Wollongong Hawks (2-0) are placed first in the NBL. . It's Deleon's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 11.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 41.2% and FT: 66.7%. Deleon played for the Dominican Republic national team in 2009.

   #3. The Dominican Republic player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Elys Guzman (206-82, college: Bemidji St.), who plays in Ecuador. He was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Mavort (0-3) in their last game. Despite Guzman's very good performance Mavort lost 73-84 on their home court in Ibarra to the higher-ranked (#3) Centauros de Apure. He was the top scorer with 28 points. Guzman also added 8 rebounds in 37 minutes. So far Mavort lost all three games in the Preliminary Round. The Preliminary Round already ended in the Liga Sudamericana. Guzman is currently second on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (fifth place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Guzman averages: 24.0ppg, 8.3rpg in the three games he played so far. He played for the Dominican Republic national team three years ago.

   #4. An experienced power forward Josh Asselin (210-78, agency: Duran International, college: Michigan), who plays in the Spanish ACB was not able to secure a victory for Assignia Manresa (0-3) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Asselin's good performance Assignia Manresa was defeated 83-71 on the road by the higher-ranked FIATC Joventut (#8). He scored 10 points. . This season Asselin has relatively solid stats: 11.0ppg and 3.3rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Dominican Republic and American. Despite Asselin played previously for the Dominican Rep. national team, he is currently in the Dominican Republic national team roster. Asselin used to play for Naco in Dominican Republic league.

   #5. Former international point guard Sean Ogirri (188-86, college: Wyoming), who plays in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) couldn't help Leche Rio Breogan (1-1) in their last game. Despite his good performance Leche Rio Breogan lost 86-90 on the opponent's court to the second-ranked River_Andorra. Ogirri scored 11 points and added 3 passes in 26 minutes. . Ogirri has reliable stats this year: 13.5ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.5apg in the two games. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and Dominican Republic. Despite Ogirri played previously for the Dominican Rep. national team, he is currently in the Dominican Republic national team roster.

   #6. Swingman Jeff Greer (196-79, college: Rutgers) managed to help Strasbourg IG to win against the 11th-ranked Limoges CSP Elite (0-2) 70-62 in the French ProA last Monday. Greer scored only 2 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Strasbourg IG (1-1) is placed sixth in the ProA. . Greer is currently ninth on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (sixth place). His overall stats this season are: 5.0ppg and 4.0rpg. Greer has both American and Dominican Republic nationalities. He is a former international player as he played for the Dominican Republic senior team three years ago. Greer used to play for Cocolos de San Pedro de Macoris in Dominican Republic league.

   #7. Former international guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) couldn't help Banvit BK (0-1) in their game against Anadolu Efes (1-0) in the Turkish TBL. He recorded 7 points and added 4 assists in 31 minutes. It was his first game for Banvit BK this season. Banvit BK lost 69-79 in Istanbul to the second-ranked Anadolu Efes. . Mejia used to play for the Dominican Republic national team seven years ago.

   #8. Guard James Feldeine (193-88, college: Quinnipiac) couldn't help Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (0-3) in their game against Real Madrid (3-0) in the Spanish ACB. He scored 7 points. The bottom-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada was crushed 100-79 in a derby game by the much higher-ranked Real Madrid (#3). So far Baloncesto Fuenlabrada lost all three games in the Regular Season. . Feldeine averaged so far 12.3ppg and 2.0spg. He also holds two passports: Dominican Republic and American. Despite Feldeine played previously for the USA national team, he is currently in the Dominican Republic national team roster. Strangely Feldeine has never played in Dominican Republic.

   #9. Former international forward Jose Domingues Del Villar (195-84, college: Brewton Parker) couldn't help Espoo Basket (1-2) in their game against JyWe (2-1) in the Finnish 1st Division (second division), despite his good performance last Sunday. He scored 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. But the sixth-placed Espoo Basket lost 58-67 in Jyvaskyla to the higher-ranked (#3) JyWe in the Division B. . This year Del Villar's overall stats are: 8.5ppg and 4.5rpg in the two games. He used to play for the Dominican Republic national team seven years ago.

   #10. Power forward Larry Turner (210-82, agency: Strategic Sports, college: Tennessee St.) couldn't help the league outsider Apollon Patras (0-20) in their game against Ikaros (1-0) in the Greek A1. Turner recorded 5 points. Apollon Patras was edged 67-65 in Kalitheas by the leading Ikaros. So far Apollon Patras lost all twenty games in the Regular Season. . Turner's total stats this season are: 8.5ppg and 4.5rpg. He holds both American and Dominican Republic passports. Turner is a former international player as seven years ago he still played for the Dominican Republic senior national team. Apparently he has never played in Dominican Republic.

   #11. Former international forward Carlos Novas (197-92) couldn't help Gmunden Swans in their game against Xion Dukes in the Austrian A Bundesliga. Novas cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points in 5 minutes on the court. His team lost 85-94. This year Novas averages just 2.0ppg in the two games. He used to play for the Dominican Republic national team seven years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Dominican Republic passport but never been selected to any of Dominican Republic national teams:

   #1. Emmanuel Quezada (188-PG-85, college: USF) was the major contributor in a FIATC Joventut's victory against the 14th-ranked Assignia Manresa (0-3) 83-71 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. He scored 13 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 26 minutes. FIATC Joventut Badalona (2-1) is placed eighth in the ACB. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Quezada is ranked fourth on the list of the best passers in the league with 4.7apg. He also averaged so far 15.0ppg and 3.3rpg in the three games he played so far. Quezada has a dual citizenship: Dominican Republic and American. Strangely he has never played in Dominican Republic.

   #2. Experienced Ricardo Greer (197-F/G-78, college: Pittsburgh) led Strasbourg IG to a victory over the 11th-ranked Limoges CSP Elite (0-2) 70-62 in the French ProA last Monday. Greer was MVP of the game. He scored 17 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 6 assists. Strasbourg IG (1-1) is placed sixth in the ProA. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Greer is ranked ninth on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best passers (sixth place). He has individually a very good season with high stats. Greer averages: 16.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 6.0apg and 1.5spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Dominican Republic and American. Strangely Greer has never played in Dominican Republic.

Torpan Pojat Helsinki (1st Division) agreed terms with 29-year old American swingman L.D. Williams (193-95kg-88, college: Wake Forest). He played this summer at San Lazaro in District National in Dominican Republic. The last season Williams played at Correcaminos in Mexican LNBP where in 8 games he had 9.4ppg, 2.8rpg, 1.0apg and 1.1spg. Williams is quite experienced player. Pyrinto Tampere (Korisliiga) added to their roster 31-year old American small forward Brian Asbury (201-100kg-86, college: Miami, FL). He played this summer at Mauricio Baez in District National in Dominican Republic. He helped them to make it to the final. The last season Asbury played at Hasharon (National League) in Israel where in 7 games he recorded very impressive stats: 16.6ppg, 7.0rpg, 2.6apg and 2.0spg. Metros STGO - Leones SD 94-87 Metros STGO captured LNB title. They held off Leones SD in the fifth game of the championship series and celebrated the trophy. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-14. But Leones SD won third quarter 26-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Metros STGO forced 24 Leones SD turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American Robe...   [read more]
