2017 Copa Mitchell Cup Top Performance
2/4/2017

American Jermaine Barnes (193-G/F-83, college: Point, GA, agency: Gamble Sports Management) put on an extraordinary performance in the opening round for Copa Mitchell Cup league's leader GIE Maile Matrix and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Game award for round 1.

The 33-year old forward had a monster game of 33 points and eight rebounds, while his team outclassed Plaza with 6-point margin 80-74. This puts the Matrix in great position for a 3-peeat. The GIE Maile Matrix have won the last three Copa Mitchell Cup championships. Barnes just recently return to action after a career ending injury in 2014. He will lead the Matrix against Puevo Neuvo tomorrow night at 8:30pm. Barnes finished the game with 33 points (11-20fg), 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the win over Plaza.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 31-year old American guard Tony Omotayo (196-G/F-85, college: Ft.Valley St.) of the Atlanta Legends.. Tony Omotayo impressed basketball fans with a great opening night of 30 points and 6 rebounds. It was enough for the Legends to edge the higher-ranked Cupes by 2 points 71-69. This victory allowed the Legends to move up to 1st position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best. Tony Omotayo has attended the Copa Mitchell Cup since 2014. He has won two back to back titles with the GIE Matrix.

The third best performed player last round was Dominican Oliver Garcia (188-SG-96) of Plaza. Oliver showcased his all-around game by recording 26 points, five rebounds and seven assists in the last round. He was a key player of Plaza, in 2015 he was named Top Guard by LatinBasket.com. In 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Colorado Springs (USA) -14 (Bronze): 5 games: 3.2ppg

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jose Americo Delgado of Plaza - 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Divier Perez (201-F/C-89) of Academia - 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Keith Closs (224-C-76, college: Cent.Conn.St.) of GIE Maile Matrix - 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks
7. Terrence Shannon (203-F-79, college: Elgin CC) of GIE Maile Matrix - 16 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the Game is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.

The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.

The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
