We bring you last week's top performances from Dominicans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

Sammy Mejia
Sammy Mejia
#1. This week's number one is an experienced former international swingman Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul, currently plays in Turkey). Mejia could not help Tofas (10-15) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Tofas was edged 95-94 at home by the higher-ranked (#5) Besiktas. Mejia was the second best scorer with 18 points. He also added 8 rebounds and 7 assists in 41 minutes on the court. It was Tofas' fourth consecutive loss in a row. Mejia has relatively good stats this year: 14.6ppg, 5.0rpg, 3.6apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 62.1%(82-132), 3FGP: 43.3% and FT: 73.6% in 25 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Dominican Republic and American. Mejia played for the Dominican Republic senior national team twelve years ago. Strangely he has never played in Dominican Republic.

Trevor Ariza
Trevor Ariza
#2. Second place goes to former international forward Trevor Ariza (203-85, college: UCLA, currently plays in NBA). Ariza led Houston Rockets to a victory against the Denver Nuggets (39-42) 110-104 in the NBA last Wednesday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds. The Houston Rockets have a solid 54-27 record this season. Ariza's team will play only one more game in the NBA Regular Season. Ariza has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 11.6ppg, 5.7rpg, 2.1apg, 1.8spg, 2FGP: 55.7%(132-237), 3FGP: 34.5% and FT: 74.2%. Ariza is another player who holds two passports: Dominican Republic and American. He played for the Dominican Republic national team in 2005. Apparently Ariza has never played in Dominican Republic.

Jose Cabrera
Jose Cabrera
#3. The Dominican Republic player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Jose Cabrera (206-84, currently plays in Spain). He was not able to help Mataro (9-15) in their last game. Despite Cabrera's very good performance the 13th-placed Mataro (9-15) was crushed 92-71 on the road by the leading Martorell in the Group C-A. He had a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 14 rebounds in 34 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. This year Cabrera's overall stats are: 9.8ppg, 8.5rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 57.1%(52-91) and FT: 62.2% in 13 games. He played for the Dominican Republic national team eleven years ago.

Jeff Greer
Jeff Greer
#4. Shooting guard Jeff Greer (196-79, college: Rutgers, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Poitiers (14-13) in their game against SPO Rouen (12-14) in the French ProB (second division). Greer scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Poitiers was defeated 90-81 on their home court in Poitiers by the lower-ranked SPO Rouen (#12). They ended the series of three consecutive victories. It's Greer's fourth season with the team. His total stats this year are: 3.3ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.6apg. Greer has both American and Dominican Republic nationalities. He used to play for the Dominican Republic national team back in 2009. Greer played also for Cocolos de San Pedro de Macoris in Dominican Republic league.

Gregorio Adon
Gregorio Adon
#5. Former U17 international forward Gregorio Adon (198-91, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Marin (7-24) in their game against Oviedo CB (20-11) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Adon recorded only one point. The bottom-ranked Marin was crushed 89-55 on the opponent's court by the much higher-ranked Oviedo_CB (#4). There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Adon's total stats this season are: 4.0ppg and 2.7rpg. He used to play for the Dominican Republic U17 national team ten years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Dominican Republic passport but never been selected to any of Dominican Republic national teams:

#1. Karl-Anthony Towns (213-F/C-95, college: Kentucky, currently plays in NBA) could not help the Minnesota Timberwolves (31-50) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the Minnesota Timberwolves (31-50) were edged 110-109 on the road by the Los Angeles Lakers. Towns had a double-double by scoring 40 points and getting 21 rebounds. He also added 4 assists in 41 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Towns' second season in pro basketball. It was Timberwolves' fifth consecutive loss in a row. His team will play only one more game in the NBA Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Towns has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 25.1ppg, 12.1rpg, 2.7apg and 1.3bpg in 81 games he played so far. Towns has a dual citizenship: Dominican Republic and American. Strangely he has never played in Dominican Republic.

#2. Eloy Vargas (211-C-88, agency: Duran International, college: Kentucky, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to help GECR Indalo (24-23) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Vargas' very good performance the fourth-placed GECR Indalo (24-23) was edged 77-76 at home by the higher-ranked Weber Bahia (#3) in the Sur group. He recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. Vargas also added 4 blocks. Vargas has relatively good stats this season: 14.0ppg and 7.8rpg.

#3. Edgar Sosa (190-PG-88, college: Louisville, currently plays in Lebanon) was the major contributor in a Al Riyadi's victory against the fourth-ranked Champville (9-14) 93-76 in the Lebanese Pepsi LBL on Thursday night. He scored 20 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 33 minutes. Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut (6-0) is placed first in Group B. So far his team won all six games in the Second Stage. They will play only one more game in the Second Stage. And now that game is very crucial. Sosa has relatively good stats this year: 13.6ppg, 3.4rpg, 6.2apg and 1.4spg in five games. He is another player who holds two passports: Dominican Republic and American. Sosa used to play for Leones de Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic league.

#4. James Feldeine (193-G-88, college: Quinnipiac, currently plays in Greece) led Panathinaikos to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked AGOR (12-13) crushing them 101-74 in the Greek A1 in Monday night's game. He recorded 14 points. Panathinaikos Athens (24-1) is placed second in the A1. It was his team's 12th consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. This season Feldeine averages: 8.6ppg, 1.8rpg and 1.9apg. He has both American and Dominican Republic nationalities. Strangely Feldeine has never played in Dominican Republic.

#5. Alfred Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida, currently plays in NBA) led Boston Celtics to a victory against the Brooklyn Nets (20-61) 114-105 in the NBA last Monday. He scored 19 points, had 8 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 33 minutes. The Boston Celtics have a solid 52-29 record this season. Horford's team will play only one more game in the NBA Regular Season. And now that game is extremely important. Horford has very impressive stats this year: 14.0ppg, 6.8rpg, 5.0apg and 1.3bpg in 67 games.

#6. Rigoberto Mendoza (190-G-92, currently plays in Puerto Rico) led Santeros to a 3-point victory over the ninth-ranked Indios 73-70 in the Puerto Rican BSN on Thursday night. He was MVP of the game. Mendoza recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 4 assists and 2 blocks (made all of his six free throws). This season Mendoza has very high stats. He averages: 21.7ppg, 9.7rpg and 2.0apg.

#7. Sadiel Rojas (197-G/F-89, college: Okla.Wesleyan, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for UCAM Murcia (10-16) in their last game. Despite his good performance UCAM Murcia was crushed 109-84 in Madrid by the second-ranked Movil Estudiantes. Rojas recorded 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 27 minutes. This year Rojas' overall stats are: 5.1ppg and 5.6rpg in 26 games. He also holds two passports: Dominican Republic and American. Rojas used to play for Leones de Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic league.

#8. Antonio Pena (204-PF-86, college: Villanova, currently plays in Venezuela) couldn't help Marinos in their game against Cocodrilos in the Venezuelan LPB. Despite his very good performance in Wednesday night's game He scored 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. This season Pena has relatively solid stats: 11.1ppg, 3.8rpg and 1.1apg. He holds both American and Dominican Republic passports. Pena used to play for Reales de La Vega in Dominican Republic league.

#9. Victor Liz (188-SG-86, agency: Basket Management Solutions, currently plays in Puerto Rico) couldn't help Leones in their game against Santeros in the Puerto Rican BSN, despite his very good performance last Saturday. He scored 16 points, grabbed 6 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 4 balls in 34 minutes. But his team was edged 75-74. Liz has very impressive stats this year: 15.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.0apg and 2.0spg in three games.

#10. Emmanuel Andujar (198-F-93, college: Manhattan, currently plays in Puerto Rico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Rigoberto Mendoza. He played also in the last Puerto Rican BSN game facing Victor Liz (above) in the other team. Andujar contributed to a 1-point Santeros' victory against the eighth-ranked Leones 75-74. He scored 11 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Andujar's overall stats this season are: 8.0ppg, 5.3rpg and 2.7apg. He holds both American and Dominican Republic passports.
