Ecuador recorded the third win at the U17 South American Championship in Chile. They tamed Paraguay but the victory of Chile over Argentina left Ecuador without a ticket to FIBA Americas U18 Championship. Paraguay slipped at 1-4 record after the defeat. Ecuador limited their opponents to 6 points in the first quarter and built an 8-point advantage at the first break. Ecuador increased the tempo in the second period and took a 15-point advantage at halftime. Paraguay could not match their opponents in the third term. Ecuador fired 30 points in the term and piled up a comfortable 29-point cushion heading into the fourth stanza. Ecuador never slowed down and raced to the win at the end. Yoselyn Escalante knocked down 25 points to lead Ecuador. Maria Mora contributed 23 points and 31 rebounds in the victory. Maria Caraves answered with 15 points and 9 boards for Paraguay. Astrid Huttemann had 11 points and 12 boards in defeat. Ecuador will have a bye in the last round. Paraguay will wrap up their campaign against Colombia later tonight.

UTE celebrated two victories in three games at the start of the South American Club Championships. The hosts of the tournament opened their campaign with a massive 108:50 victory over Regatas Lima. UTE celebrated two victories in three games at the start of the South American Club Championships. The hosts of the tournament opened their campaign with a massive 108:50 victory over Regatas Lima. UTE dominated from start to finish. The Ecuadorian team posted a 52:23 halftime lead and cruised to the victory from there on. Dayana Salcedo notched 18 points for UTE. Anabel Barahona contributed 16 points in the victory. Zuleira Aties (190-F/C-80, agency: Regeneracom Sports) answered with 15 points for Regatas. Next UTE faced Uruguayan Malvin. And once again UTE started strong enough to build a 41:24 halftime advantage. They kept Malvin at bay throughout the second half celebrating a well-deserved 80:61 win at the end. Paola Ferrari (178-G/F-85, agency: Josep and Nicolas) came up with 31 points for UTE. Angelica Robinson (196-F-87, college: Georgia) added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. The third round brought the first upset for the home team. UTE took on Ourinhos and suffered a 71:77 defeat. Ourinhos led by 7 points after ten minutes but UTE took over in the next two periods. The Ecuadorian team surged ahead to ensure a 5-point buffer at the final break. Ourinhos regained control in the fourth frame though. The Brazilian team went on a 22:11 run and sealed the victory. Chuca De Oliveira (182-F/G-79) accounted for 25 points in the win. Angelica Robinson answered with 25 points for UTE. Paola Ferrari provided 20 points in the loss.

Rina Yepez and her teammates blasted Uruguay with 21-8 in third quarter and later closed this game with 20-12 (Q4) for the final 69-45 victory.
