Interview with Halcones de Sonzacate American PG Danny Lawhorn (183-PG, college: Midwestern St.)

Danny Lawhorn (183-PG, college: Midwestern St.) is a 6'0' American PG from Hartford, Connecticut who plays in the 16-team Salvadoran Liga Mayor de Baloncesto (1st division) for the Halcones de Sonzacate. 2016 is Lawhorn's second season in El Salvador having played for Cojutepeque in 2015. He is currently averaging 29.6 ppg, 8.1 apg, 5.5 rpg and 3 spg after putting up 31.6, 10.4, 5.5 and 3 last season with Cojutepeque. Lawhorn played collegiately for two years at San Jacinto (TX) Junior College where he was named all-region and led the nation in assists followed by brief stops at Washington State University and Midwestern State University before turning pro. Lawhorn and his Halcones are currently tied for second place with a 21-6 record.

How did you end up in El Salvador last season and why did you come back this season?
I ended up in El Salvador through a former teammate in college, Abiodun Adegoke (203-F, college: Midwestern St.). He was here (with Cojutepeque) and they needed a guard. I came back this season to finish what I didn't last year and win the championship.

What differences have you seen in the league from last season to this season?
The difference I see this year is the growth and the competition has gotten a lot better.

What have been the keys, both off and on the court, to the success Halcones has had so far this season?
The keys for us being successful this season are we have each other back push one another on and off the court. Everyone buying in to what we have to do and understanding their roles. Also, we have good relationships between the staff and players on and off the court

What team do you least want to play in the playoffs and why?
Santa Tecla. They are very experienced and have good team chemistry. They are also very deep with players.

Rank the top five players in the league in your opinion with #1 being the best. You can include yourself.
1. Danny Lawhorn (183-PG, college: Midwestern St.) 2. Jonathan King (198-F/G-90, college: Abil.Christian) (La Union) 3. Jeremee Davis (191-PG-90, college: Georgia Coll.) (Izalco) 4. Robert Martinez (183-PG, college: Our Lady Lake) (Santa Tecla) 5. Kenny Brown (188-G-91, college: Ferris St.) (FAS Denver)

Best Salvadoran in the league?
Robert Martinez (183-PG, college: Our Lady Lake) of Santa Tecla.

Favorite thing to do in ES off the court?
My favorite thing to do is go to the beach and relax or check out the volcano sites. Also shopping at the mall.

Favorite place you have visited here in ES?
The beach.
