After 5 rounds played we can already see who rules in the Liga MB and who belongs to weaker ones. Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Isidro Metapan as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Isidro Metapan defeated 7th ranked El Rapido at home 82-67. Isidro Metapan forced 20 El Rapido turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by El Rapido's players. Venezuelan-Colombian forward Michael Hinestroza-Javes (208-90, college: UALR) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 20 rebounds for the winners and Venezuelan guard Edwin Mijares (186-94) chipped in 23 points and 11 assists. Panamanian Daniel King (203-87, college: Texas Southern) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 17 rebounds. Isidro Metapan have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. El Rapido at the other side dropped to the eighth place with two games lost. They share the position with 11 Lobos. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Bottom-ranked Cojute (0-3) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their third consecutive match to ninth ranked Sonsonate (2-1) 93-71. American-Panamanian forward Adalberto Rojas (198-86) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and Jorge Loucel accounted for 21 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Sonsonate's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Kenny Demouchet (198-89, college: Jackson St.) came up with 32 points and 7 rebounds for Cojute in the defeat. Sonsonate moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Denver-FAS. Cojute at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Sonsonate will play against higher ranked Canarios (#3) in Ahuachapan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cojute will play on the road against San Miguel (#15) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Denver-FAS will meet Halcones (#10) in the next round. Arcense will play against Halcones and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

This time they lost on the road their fourth consecutive match to leader Santa Tecla (3-0) 97-80. Oreste Torres orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds. Santa Tecla's coach let to play all 12 players saving starting five for next games. Santa Tecla have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Canarios and Brujos Izalco. San Miguel at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Santa Tecla's next round opponent will be 11 Lobos (#8) in Chalchuapa which should be theoretically an easy game. San Miguel will play at home against Cojute (#12) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

Sonsonate dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Cojute's 50. They outrebounded Cojute 44-26 including a 31-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. American-Panamanian forward Adalberto Rojas (198-86) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and forward Jorge Loucel (186-90) accounted for 21 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). American center Reginald Brown (202-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 23 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Wali Hepburn (193-89, college: Lock Haven) chipped in 30 points and 16 rebounds. The most exciting game of round 21 in the Liga MB took place in Metapan. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed Isidro Metapan (9-3) to first ranked Santa Tecla (13-1) 78-75 on Sunday evening. Liga MB newcomer Sonsonate BC landed 27-year old Panamanian swingman Jonathan King (198-109kg-90, college: Abil.Christian). He played recently at Caballos in Panamanian LPB league. In three games he averaged 11.7ppg, 2.7rpg, 2.3apg and 1.7spg this season. Among other achievements King's team made it to the El Salvador Liga Mayor Clausura Semifinals in 2016.
