Liga MB Round 6: Canarios lose to Sonsonate - Mar 2, 2017

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in Liga MB, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory.

Canarios (3-1) recorded its first loss on the court of seventh ranked Sonsonate on Tuesday night. Visitors were rolled over by Sonsonate 115-85. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Canarios. Sonsonate dominated down low during the game scoring 110 of its points in the paint compared to Canarios' 56. They outrebounded Canarios 50-31 including 19 on the offensive glass. Sonsonate looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Canarios' players. The best player for the winners was Yoan Haiti who had a triple-double by scoring 26 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. Bryyden Denald chipped in 23 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Reginald Brown (202-91) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 16 rebounds. Sonsonate have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Canarios. Sonsonate's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in to the arena .
Santa Ana can celebrate finally their first win this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Giants (0-4) 117-86. It was a good game for American Maliek Daniels (193-88, college: Trevecca Naz.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Tobias Dowdell contributed with 37 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners. Maurice Williams replied with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds for Giants. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Ana (1-3) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place. It was Giants' fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Cojute and Arcense. Santa Ana will play against higher ranked Canarios (#7) in Ahuachapan in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Giants will have a break next round.
San Miguel can celebrate finally their first win this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Cojute (0-4) 79-61 on Wednesday. Jordan Johnson had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Kenny Demouchet with 24 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Miguel (1-4) left bottom position moving up to twelfth place. It was Cojute's fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Giants and Arcense. San Miguel will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cojute will play against Arcense (#13) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

The game in Chalchuapa was also quite interesting. Top-ranked Santa Tecla (4-0) played at the court of 8th ranked 11 Lobos (2-3). Santa Tecla defeated 11 Lobos 73-62 on Tuesday. The best player for the winners was Carlos Arias who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 22 rebounds. Santa Tecla have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Isidro Metapan. Loser 11 Lobos dropped to the ninth place with three games lost. Santa Tecla will face Brujos Izalco (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day.

In the last game of round 6 Denver-FAS defeated Halcones in San Salvador 90-85.

Santa Ana - Giants 117-86

Santa Ana can celebrate finally their first win this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Giants (0-4) 117-86. Santa Ana made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Santa Ana outrebounded Giants 44-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Giants' players. It was a good game for American Maliek Daniels (193-88, college: Trevecca Naz.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import forward Tobias Dowdell (201-90, college: Alders.-Broad.) contributed with 37 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Santa Ana players scored in double figures. San Miguel can celebrate finally their first win this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Cojute (0-4) 79-61 on Wednesday. San Miguel forced 25 Cojute turnovers. American point guard Jordan Johnson (183-92, college: Tenn Tech) had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Nduka Ezeamii (203, college: Avila) chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Four San Miguel players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American Kenny Demouchet (198-89, college: Jackson St.) with 24 points and center Brayan Garcia (177-95) scored 5 points and 10 rebounds. Arcense - Halcones 67-75

Bottom-ranked Arcense (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 75-67 loss to tenth ranked Halcones (2-3) in San Salvador. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Arcense's 36. Halcones forced 19 Arcense turnovers. American point guard Jeremee Davis (191-90, college: Georgia Coll.) notched a double-double by scoring 26 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import Jeffery Moss (193-93, college: Murray St.) supported him with 26 points. Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 19 points and 19 rebounds by Teodoro Romero did not help to save the game for Arcense. Cuban Yordany Jaca (195-83) added 20 points and 15 rebounds. Halcones moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 11 Lobos. Arcense at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Halcones will have a break next round. Arcense will play on the road against Cojute (#14) in Cojutepeque and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

Martinez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Marc Montavious (206-90, college: Georgetown, KY) who recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks and Haitian Joseph Antoine (203-84, college: Union, TN) added 13 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Santa Tecla have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Isidro Metapan. Loser 11 Lobos dropped to the ninth place with three games lost. There was no surprise in Sonzacate where 10th ranked Halcones (2-3) were defeated by sixth ranked Denver-FAS (3-1) 90-85 on Tuesday. Denver-FAS forced 21 Halcones turnovers. Halcones were plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Olaniyr Adedoyin who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds. American point guard Anthony Brown (193-89, college: Imperial Valley JC) chipped in 26 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was American Jeffery Moss (193-93, college: Murray St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Jeremee Davis (191-90, college: Georgia Coll.) added 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Halcones' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Denver-FAS moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams.
