Manuel
Guevara
Panamanian Shooting guard Manuel Guevara (186-SG-81) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for El Rapido, receiving a Latinbasket.com Liga MB Player of the Week award for round 13.
The 35-year old player was the main contributor (35 points, six rebounds and two assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out 11 Lobos (#10, 2-6) 68-64. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Thanks to this victory El Rapido moved-up to the 12th position in Salvadorean Liga MB. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 5 games and recorded just two victories. Guevara turned to be El Rapido's top player in his first season with the team. Manuel Guevara has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (3rd best: 28.4ppg) and averages impressive 2.3spg.

The second best player in last round's games was 27-year old American Wali Hepburn (193-G-89) of Canarios. Hepburn had a very good evening with a double-double of 29 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as Canarios was edged by Giants (#15, 0-7) 95-92. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Canarios dropped in the standings to 9th position. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 4-4 record is not bad and everything may still change. Hepburn is one of the most experienced players at Canarios and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 27.0ppg (#5). His other stats are also decent: 11.6rpg and 4.2apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was Spanish forward Duane James (196-F-83) of Isidro Metapan (#3). James showcased his all-around game by recording 29 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the last round. Despite James' great performance Isidro Metapan lost 66-68 to the lower-ranked Cojute (#7, 3-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Isidro Metapan needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 6 victories and 2 lost games. James has a very solid season. In 8 games in El Salvador he scored 24.1ppg. He also has 10.4rpg, 4.4apg and FGP: 53.7%. James attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Joseph Antoine (203-PF-84) of 11 Lobos - 17 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Anthony Moe (206-F/C) of Cojute - 26 points, 17 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Marc Montavious (206-C-90) of 11 Lobos - 10 points and 18 rebounds
7. Maurice Williams) of Giants - 21 points and 10 rebounds
8. Macari Brooks (190-G-92) of Giants - 18 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists
9. Luis Escoto (180-G-96) of Giants - 27 points, 2 rebounds and 9 assists
10. Jose Araujo (186-G-86) of Halcones - 17 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Fourth-ranked Thunder (10-7) was very close to win a game against second ranked San Marcos (14-3) on Sunday. San Marcos managed to secure only three-point victory 85-82. However their fans expected easier game. It was a great shooting night for San Marcos especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of Leonar...   [read more]
