Panamanian Shooting guard Manuel Guevara (186-SG-81) had an amazing evening in the last round for El Rapido, receiving a Latinbasket.com Liga MB Player of the Week award for round 16. The 35-year old player was the main contributor (39 points, five rebounds and seven assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Sonsonate (#6, 6-5) 77-72. El Rapido maintains the 10th position in Salvadorean Liga MB. El Rapido is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 4-6 record. In the team's last game Guevara had a remarkable 61.1% from 2-point range. He turned to be El Rapido's top player in his first season with the team. Manuel Guevara has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (5th best: 29.0ppg) and averages impressive 2.2spg.
The second best player in last round's games was 29-year old Cuban Oreste Torres (204-PF-87) of league's leader Santa Tecla. Torres had a very good evening with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course he led Santa Tecla to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Santa Ana (#13, 2-8) 101-81. Of course Santa Tecla still keep the league's top spot. He plays for the best team in the league and Santa Tecla managed to win all 11 games keeping a perfect record. Torres is a newcomer at Santa Tecla, but is already one of team's top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American center Reginald Brown (202-C-91) of Canarios (#8). Brown scored 23 points and grabbed eighteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Brown's great performance Canarios lost 94-102 to Denver-FAS (6-5). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Canarios needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 6 victories and 5 lost games. Brown has a great season in El Salvador. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.1ppg (7th best), rebounds with 18.1rpg (2nd best) and assists with 2.1apg (7th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Brandon Golden (193-G) of Cojute - 26 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists 5. Anthony Brown (193-PG-89) of Denver-FAS - 31 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists 6. Jeffery Moss (193-PF-93) of Halcones - 28 points and 13 rebounds 7. Wali Hepburn (193-G-89) of Canarios - 30 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists 8. Scott Sill (206-F-92) of Cojute - 27 points, 18 rebounds and 3 assists 9. Yoan Haiti) of Sonsonate - 18 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists 10. Tobias Dowdell (201-F-90) of Santa Ana - 21 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
