Bahamas named their national team for the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship to be played from June 17-21 in Mendoza, Argentina.

The team is coached by Quentin Hall and is assisted by Scott Forbes. The Bahamians have a lot of expectations after having many tall players in their roster.

The selected players are: Phillip Jones (Jack Hayward - forward), Aston Lewis (Tabernacle - shooting guard), Garth Brown (Tabernacle - shooting guard/forward), Travis Wildgoose (Tabernacle - power forward), Ramon Dames (Eight Mile Rock - point guard), Ervin Lewis (Eight Mile Rock - forward), Devardo Adderley (Eight Mile Rock - forward) and Ramon Dames (Eight Mile Rock - point guard). The New Providence based athletes are Michael Carey Jr. (The Village, Texas - point guard), Wannah Bail (The Village, Texas - center), Geno Bullard (Westminster - point/shooting guard) and Roosevelt Whylley (C.C. Sweeting - forward).

Wannah Bail is 6'8' tall and Michael Carey is a 6'5' guard and both will help them in this tournament. Bahamas is in group B along with Argentina, Canada and Mexico. Group A has Brazil, Puerto Rico, USA and Venezuela.

No Bahamian team has finished higher than seventh at a FIBA Americas event

USA wins the Gold in Cancun - Jun 27, 2011

FINAL USA - Argentina 104-64 USA won the Gold at the U16 FIBA Americas championship in Cancun. They smashed Argentina 104-64 in the Big Final to take the first place. The Silver medal belongs to Argentina. It is important to mention that both teams booked a ticket for the next FIBA U17 World Championship. SEMIFINALS Puerto Rico - Argentina 90-96 Argentina advanced to the Big Final of U16 FIBA Americas championship in Cancun. Argentina eliminated Puerto Rico in the very exciting Semifinals 96-90. They will fight for the Gold against powerful USA. On the other side, Puerto Rico will meet Canada in the battle for Bronze. Group A Mexico - Canada 56-88 Canada registered second win at the U16 FIBA Americas championship in Cancun. They handed 88-56 loss to Mexico taking the second place in Group A. It means that Canada advanced to Semifinals, where they will meet USA. Mexico ended as the last ranked team in this group (0-3). Patrick Steeves (95) came up with 16 points and 9 rebounds in victory.
