San Antonio is ready for 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. The event will start on Saturday, June 26. Eight countries are divided in two groups. Participants of Group A are: Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Canada. Participants of Group B are: USA, Virgins Islands, Argentina and Mexico. At the opening day of the competition Canada will meet Uruguay, while Brazil will take on Puerto Rico. At the same day we will have Argentina - Mexico and USA - Virgins Islands games.
Two best ranked teams from each group will advance to Semis. The Semifinals games are scheduled for June 29. At the same day we will have classification games. The last day of the championship is Wednesday, June 30. All Semifinalists will qualify for the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship.
The defending champion from 2008 FIBA Americas U18 Championship is Argentina. They managed to win the title with perfect 5-0 record. After victories against Canada, Uruguay and Mexico in Preliminary Round, Argentina was too strong for Puerto Rico 83-68 in the Semis. In the Big Final they met strong USA Team, but outplayed them as well 77-64 winning the Gold medal.

Argentinean Junior National Team scored a comprehensive 77:64 win over the United States in the FIBA Americas Championship Final Game in Formosa. It was just the second loss for the United States team in the history of their participation at the event. Argentina was well cheered up by the supportive crowd of more than 5000 spectators to jump to an early lead. The hosts enjoyed a 20:11 advantage late in the opening stanza. Argentina built a 26:18 lead at the end of the quarter. The teams slowed down in the second frame as the tension grew stronger. The USA outscored their opponents 10:9 and trailed by 7 points at halftime 28:35. The teams traded the baskets early in the third stanza and the North Americans managed to cut the deficit to 6 points. However Argentina exploded with 11 points in a row to establish 53:36 advantage late in the frame. Argentina entered the final period up by 16 points. The USA fought bravely in the final period but the home team easily secured the winning outcome and was awarded Gold Medals. Mateo Gaynor (198-G-90) and Juan Manuel Fernandez had 16 points for the winners. Matias Nocedal (192-G-90, agency: Interperformances) scored 15 points for Argentina. Kemba Walker (185-G-90) answered with 21 points and 7 boards for the USA. Walker was trumped the tournaments MVP after the game. Malcolm Lee (196-G-90) secured 13 points in a loss.

The draw ceremony for the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2018 took place on Tuesday evening in the Regional Offices of FIBA Americas in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The results of the draw are as follows: Group A: Dominican Republic, Panama, Puerto Rico, USA Group B: Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Canada The FIBA U18 Americas Championship will be played June 10-16 in St. Catharines, Canada, and will qualify the top-four teams to the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2019.
