2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship starts on Saturday in Sao Sebastian - Jun 12, 2012

Everything is ready for the beginning of 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. The event will take a place in Sao Sebastian (Brasil) from June 16-20. Eight teams participate at this championship.

Group A: Brazil (BRA), United States (USA), Virgin Islands (ISV) and Mexico (MEX).
Group B: Canada (CAN), Argentina (ARG), Colombia (COL) and Puerto Rico (PUR).

The first two teams from each group will advance to the Semifinals. These top four teams will have qualified for U19 FIBA World Championship in 2013. The first place teams of each group will play against the second place teams in the Semis. The other four teams will play for positions 5-8.

USA is the defending champion from the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in San Antonio. They outsmarted Brazil 81-78 to win the Gold at this event. Kyrie Irving (191-G-92, college: Duke) shined for USA with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. He was the MVP of this meeting with valuation 28. Austin Rivers (193-G-92) helped with 19 points, while Vander Blue (193-G-92) added 13 pts. USA ended the championship with perfect 5-0 record.

FINAL USA - Canada 113-74 USA are crowned champions in Saint Catharines. They drubbed hosting Canada in the Final on Saturday. Cole Anthony (188-G-00) came up with 18 points to pace the winners. USA unleashed 61 points in the first period to open a massive 28-point halftime lead. USA dominated in the second half and raced to a well-deserved win at the end. Canada and USA to clash for title in Saint Catharines - 2 days ago
USA - Argentina 104-92 USA advanced into Final in Saint Catharines. They outlasted Argentina in a tough semifinal clash on Friday. Six players scored in double digits for the North American side. Quentin Grimes (196-G-00) delivered 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. USA sank 54 points in the first half to take a 15-point halftime lead. Dominican Republic - Argentina 70-87 Argentina bettered Dominican Republic to stay in the title quest in Saint Catharines. Marcos Giordano (183-PG-00) delivered 35 points to pace the winners. Argentina fired 31 points in the opening frame to take a 17-point lead. Argentina maintained the lead in the second half to rally to the win.
