    Yakelyn Plutin named MVP
Yakelyn Plutin of the Cuban National Team was named the MVP of the 2005 FIBA Americas Championship for Women held in Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic.
Plutin averaged 16.8 points in five games, guiding Cuba to a Gold Medal after beating favorite Brazil in the last day.
The All Tournament Team was named: Carolina Sanchez (ARG), Micaela Jacintho (BRA), Tamara Sutton (CAN), Yamilet Martinez (CUB) and Yakelyn Plutin (CUB).

  Cuba is the zone champion Cuba defeated Brazil 81-73 and won the Gold Medal at the 2005 FIBA Americas Championship for Women held in Hato Mayor.
The Cubans took control of the game in the final three minutes of the first quarter, as they made a 10-2 run and won 21-20. Yamilet Martinez had 7 points in the first ten minutes. Cuba never lost the lead again.
The first half ended 35-33 as Licet Castillo had 9 points. Micaela led Brazil with 11 points in the first 20 minutes.
Cuba extended the lead in the third quarter, scoring 29 points against only 14 from Brazil.
In the final quarter Brazil made a final effort to close the gap and win the game, hitting from three point range but Yakelyn Plutin and Yamilet Matinez sealed the game in the final minute.
Brazil committed 21 turnovers and that was a key factor in their loss.
Yakelyn Plutin led Cuba with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Yamile Martinez had 19 points.
Micaela led Brazil with 22 points.
