Group A
Dominican Republic - Canada 72-73
Canada grabbed their first win in Mar del Plata. They celebrated in thriller against Dominican Republic 73-72 for 1-1 record in Group A. This is the first loss for Dominicans, who slipped to second place in this pool with 2-1 score. Andrew Rautins (193-PG-86, college: Syracuse) came up with 15 points in victory. Carl English (192-G-81, college: Hawaii) had 12 and Jevohn Shepherd (196-F-86, college: Michigan) helped with two points less. In Dominican Republic, Jack Michael Martinez (203-F/C-81, agency: Paris Global Sports) had double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds. Alfred Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida) followed with 17 points and 11 rebs, and Francisco Garcia (201-F/G-81, college: Louisville) netted 12 pts. Quarters: 16-19, 14-11, 14-21, 28-22. Canada will play against Cuba today and it should be an easy game for Canadians. Dominican Republic will meet undefeated Brazil.

Cuba - Venezuela 69-106
Venezuela registered first win in Mar del Plata. They cruised past Cuba 106-69 making a big step forward to the next round. Venezuela has 1-2 record now, while Cuba dropped to 0-2. Greivis Vasquez (198-PG-87, college: Maryland) shined in victory with 21 points and 6 rebounds. David Cubillan (183-PG-87, college: Marquette) had 18 points, while Dwight Lewis (196-G-87, agency: Impact Basketball, college: USC) added 11 pts for his team. In defeat, Alexis Mestre (180-G-86) delivered 26 points (6 triples). Yoan Luis Haiti (200-C-82) (8 rebs) and Lisvan Valdez (194-G/F-88) scored 11 points each. Quarters: 13-34, 20-23, 15-25, 21-24. Venezuela will take a rest today. Cuba will meet Canada.

Group B
Uruguay - Puerto Rico 64-74
Puerto Rico registered third straight win in Mar del Plata. This time they handed 74-64 loss to Uruguay keeping the first place in Group B. Of course, Puerto Rico already booked a spot for the next stage, but they also want to finish this phase with perfect score and to win this pool. Uruguay slipped to 0-2. Carlos Arroyo (188-G-79, college: FIU) top-scored for Puerto Rico with 19 points and he grabbed 5 rebounds beside that. Jose Juan Barea (181-PG-84, college: Northeastern) had 14 points and 6 boards, while Daniel Santiago (216-C-76, agency: Priority Sports, college: N.Mexico) (11 rebs) and Ricardo Sanchez (212-C/F-87) (10 rebs) helped with 8 points each. Uruguay got 16 points and 12 boards from Esteban Batista (208-F/C-83). Leandro Garcia Morales (186-G-80, college: Texas A&M) and Mauricio Aguiar (197-F-83, agency: Players Group) also had 16 points apiece. Quarters: 12-15, 17-21, 18-16, 17-22. Puerto Rico will meet Argentina and it will be a game for the first place in Group B. Uruguay will play against Panama.

Paraguay - Panama 86-89
Panama was better than Paraguay yesterday 89-86 and it was their first win in Mar del Plata. Panamanians have 1-1 record now and they are currently third ranked team in Group B. Paraguay dropped to 0-3, but they still have a chance to reach the next stage. Jose Lloreda (201-F/C-80, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: LSU) exploded for Panama with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Gary Forbes (201-G/F-85, college: Virginia) also was impressive adding 25 points and 6 rebs, while Ruben Garces (206-C/F-73, agency: Priority Sports, college: Providence) helped with 18 points and 10 rebs. In Paraguay, Enrique Martinez (189-G-78, agency: Dream Team Management) drained 36 points (6 triples, valuation 32). Guillermo Araujo (204-C-82) had 25 points and 8 rebs, but Paraguay did not have anyone else with double-digits in scoring. Quarters: 19-23, 25-17, 11-30, 31-19. Panama will meet Uruguay today. Paraguay will take a rest.

The draw for the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at midday on Thursday. The results of the draw are as follows: Group A: TBC, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Colombia Group B: Virgin Islands, Argentina, Venezuela, Canada Group C: Dominican Republic, USA, Panama, Uruguay. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas on Wednesday confirmed Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay as host nations of the FIBA AmeriCup 2017, to be played from August 25 to September 3.
