Group A
Venezuela - Canada 103-98 OT
Venezuela celebrated in the last day of the Qualifying Round in Mar del Plata. They grabbed an OT win against Canada 103-98 ending as third ranked team of Group A with 2-2 score. Canada has the same record (4th place) and both teams advanced to the Quarterfinals Round. Greivis Vasquez (198-PG-87, college: Maryland) led the scorers in victory with 29 points. Hector Romero (202-F/C-80, college: New Orleans) had 28 points, while David Cubillan (183-PG-87, college: Marquette) helped with double-double of 15 points and 10 assists. In Canada, Jermaine Anderson (188-G-83, college: Fordham) shined with 28 points. Denham Brown (198-F-83, agency: Edge Sports, college: Connecticut) (6 rebs) and Carl English (192-G-81, college: Hawaii) netted 19 and 18 points respectively. Quarters: 23-21, 17-17, 22-25, 22-21, 19-14 OT. In the first game of the Quarterfinals Round, Venezuela will meet Puerto Rico. Canada will take on Argentina.

Cuba - Brazil 83-93
Expected 93-83 win for Brazil, who ended Qualifying Round with almost perfect 3-1 record. However because of the loss against Dominican Republic, Brazil ended as No.2 of Group A while first place belongs to Dominicans. Of course, both teams head to Quarterfinals Round. On the other side, Cuba finished with poor 0-4 and failed to advance. Vitor Alves (190-F/G-90) came up with 19 points for Brazil and Guilherme Giovannoni (202-F-80, agency: Interperformances) added 16 points, plus 6 rebounds. Rafael Hettsheimer (206-C-86) followed them with 15 points and also 6 boards. In the loosing squad, Yoan Luis Haiti (200-C-82) exploded with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Yudniel Perez (189-G-84) delivered 26 points for his team. Quarters: 20-26, 17-26, 14-21, 32-20. In the first game of the Quarterfinals Round, Brazil will play against Uruguay. Cuba finished its participation in Mar del Plata.

Group B
Uruguay - Paraguay 79-66
Great performance by Uruguay, who outplayed Paraguay 79-66 for 2-2 record in Group B. It is enough for third place and Uruguay advanced to the Quarterfinals Round. On the other side, Paraguay says goodbye with poor 0-4. Leandro Garcia Morales (186-G-80, college: Texas A&M) stepped up for Uruguay with 19 points and 5 rebounds. He made five triples in this meeting. Martin Osimani (194-G-81, college: Duquesne) scored 15 points and Esteban Batista (208-F/C-83) shined with 12 points, plus 16 boards. In defeat, Enrique Martinez (189-G-78, agency: Dream Team Management) netted 18 points. Bruno Zanotti (197-F-82, college: Merrimack) had one less and Daniel Perez (190-G/F-84) stopped to 11 pts. Quarters: 21-20, 20-18, 21-9, 17-19. Quarterfinals Round start tomorrow and Uruguay will meet Brazil in the first game.

Argentina - Panama 90-71
Argentina won the Qualifying Group B in Mar del Plata with 4-0 score. In the last day of this stage they handed 90-71 loss to Panama, who also advanced to the Quarterfinals Round. Panamanians are No.3 of this pool with 1-3 record. Luis Scola (206-F/C-80) dominated under the basket with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Andres Nocioni (199-F-79) scored 18, Pablo Prigioni (191-G-77) (6 rebs) had 17 points and Emanuel Ginobili (198-G-77, agency: Interperformances) helped with 14 points, plus 8 assists. Panama got 20 points from Jose Lloreda (201-F/C-80, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: LSU). Ruben Garces (206-C/F-73, agency: Priority Sports, college: Providence) shined with 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Gary Forbes (201-G/F-85, college: Virginia) collected 13 points and 9 rebs. Quarters: 21-20, 17-19, 26-12, 26-20. Argentina will meet Canada in the first game of the Quarterfinals Round. Panama will play against Dominican Republic. All teams will take a rest today.

The draw for the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at midday on Thursday. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas on Wednesday confirmed Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay as host nations of the FIBA AmeriCup 2017, to be played from August 25 to September 3.
