Day 7 in Mar del Plata: Argentina, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Brazil secure semifinal berths - Sep 7, 2011

Argentina - Venezuela 111-93
Argentina drained 111 points against Venezuela, what of course was enough for another comfortable win. Argentineans jumped to 5-0 in the second stage and they already secured a spot for the Semifinals. Venezuela dropped to 1-4. Emanuel Ginobili (198-G-77, agency: Interperformances) led Argentina with 26 points. Pablo Prigioni (191-G-77) also was great adding 20 points and 6 assists, while Andres Nocioni (199-F-79) (7 rebs) and Luis Scola (206-F/C-80) had 19 and 17 points respectively. Ginobili, Prigioni and Nocioni drained 16 triples together with impressive percentage. In the loosing squad, Hector Romero (202-F/C-80, college: New Orleans) delivered 21 points and Windi Graterol (204-C-86) added three less. Heissler Guillent (186-G-86, agency: Paris Global Sports) stopped to 13 pts. Quarters: 30-20, 21-23, 28-29, 32-21. Argentina will play against Brazil today. Venezuela will meet winless Panama.

Panama - Brazil 65-90
Brazil cruised past Panama 90-65 for 4-1 record in the Quarterfinals Round. Thanks to this win Brazil already booked a spot for the Semis. Panama stays the last ranked team at this stage with 0-5. Guilherme Giovannoni (202-F-80, agency: Interperformances) came up with 17 points for the winners, including just one miss shot for 18 minutes on the court. Augusto Cesar Lima (206-C-91) and Caio Silveira (211-C-87, agency: Interperformances) (6 rebs) delivered 12 and 11 points respectively. Silveira had 5/5 from the field and 1/1 from the FT line in 16 minutes. Panama got 20 points from Danilo Pinnock (196-G-83, agency: SportsTalent, college: George Washington). Jose Lloreda (201-F/C-80, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: LSU) and Ruben Garces (206-C/F-73, agency: Priority Sports, college: Providence) (11 rebs) netted 16 and 10 pts respectively. Quarters: 13-20, 15-24, 18-26, 19-20. Brazil will play against unbeaten Argentina today. Panama will take on Venezuela.

Puerto Rico - Canada 79-74
Puerto Rico handed 79-74 loss to Canada securing the Semifinals in Mar del Plata. Puerto Ricans jumped to 4-1 record joining Brazil and Dominican Republic. Canada dropped to 1-4 and they lost all chances to reach the Semis. Carlos Arroyo (188-G-79, college: FIU) paced Puerto Rico to victory scoring 26 points. Alexander David Galindo (198-F-85, college: FIU) had 13 points and 5 rebounds, while Jose Juan Barea (181-PG-84, college: Northeastern) helped with 11 points, 5 boards and 6 assists. In Canada, Andrew Rautins (193-PG-86, college: Syracuse) delivered 18 points. Carl English (192-G-81, college: Hawaii) (5 rebs) and Levon Kendall (209-F-84, college: Pittsburgh) (5 rebs) netted 13 and 10 points respectively. Quarters: Today, Puerto Rico will play against Dominican Republic. Puerto Ricans lost Daniel Santiago for rest of the FIBA Americas Championship due to right foot injury. Canada will meet Uruguay in their next game.

Uruguay - Dominican Republic 76-84
Dominicans booked a spot for the Semifinals of FIBA Americas Championship in Mar del Plata. They outplayed Uruguay 84-76 for 4-1 record in the Quarterfinals Round. The same score also have Brazil and Puerto Rico. Uruguay has no chance to reach the Semis (1-4). Alfred Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida) shined for the winners with double-double of 23 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. He reached valuation 34 and was the MVP of this meeting. Francisco Garcia (201-F/G-81, college: Louisville) had 12 and Charlie Villanueva (209-F-84, college: Connecticut) helped Dominican Republic with 11 points. Martin Osimani (194-G-81, college: Duquesne) responded with 22 points and 6 assists in loss. Reque Newsome (204-C-81, college: S.Indiana) had 13 pts and 7 rebs, while Esteban Batista (208-F/C-83) added 11 points and also 7 boards. Quarters: 25-19, 17-25, 18-17, 16-23. Dominicans will meet Puerto Rico today. Uruguay will play against Canada.

Venezuela clinch historic title in Mexico City - 2 Years ago
FINAL Venezuela - Argentina 76-71 Venezuela wrapped up their impressive Fiba Americas Championship rally with the victory over Argentina in the Final. Heissler Guillent (186-PG-86, agency: Enlace Deportivo) delivered 15 points to lead Venezuela to the historic first ever Fiba Americas title. Argentina posted a 20:13 lead after the opening frame. Argentina and Venezuela advance into Final in Mexico City - 2 Years ago
Argentina - Mexico 78-70 Argentina topped Mexico to advance into the Fiba Americas championship. The victory also booked the Olympic Games birth for the winners. Luis Scola (206-F/C-80, agency: AAI Sports) posted 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Mexico built a 40:35 halftime lead.
