Brazil - Dominican Republic 71-65
Brazil posted the first victory in Mexico City. They held off Dominican Republic to bounce back from the loss at the start of the tournament. Marquinhos Vieira (207-SF-84, agency: ALLL sport) chipped in 17 points to lead the effort. Brazil accumulated a 45:32 halftime lead. Dominican Republic went on a 20:13 run in the fourth quarter but could not avoid the loss. Vitor Benite (191-SG-90, agency: Interperformances) netted 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the win. James Feldeine (193-G-88, college: Quinnipiac, agency: Excel Sports Mngm) responded with 20 points for Dominican Republic.

Panama - Uruguay 78-71
Panama recorded the first victory at the FIBA Americas championship. They held off Uruguay for 1-0 record in Group A. Michael Hicks (195-G/F-83, college: Central Mo., agency: Court Side) stepped up with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort. Uruguay snatched a 39:34 halftime lead. But Panama used a strong rally in the third term to spur ahead. Panama knocked down 23 points in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory. Gyno Pomare (203-F-86, college: San Diego, agency: Top Notch Sports) netted 17 points, while Ernesto Oglivie (199-F-89) added 10 points for the winners. Bruno Fitipaldo (183-PG-91, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 18 points for Uruguay.

Group B
Puerto Rico - Cuba 91-61
Puerto Rico recorded the first victory at the tournament as they cruised past Cuba. Jose Juan Barea (183-PG-84, college: Northeastern, agency: Relativity Sports) finished with 19 points, 6 assists adn 4 rebounds to lead the winners. Puerto Rico built a 24:17 lead after the opening quarter. They extended the margin at 16-point mark at the interval. Puerto Rico outscored their opponents in each period after the big break and coasted to the win. Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-G/F-86, college: Virginia Tech, agency: ASM Sports) provided 16 points for the winners. Jasiel Rivero (204-C-93, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 20 points for Cuba.

Canada - Argentina 87-94
Luis Scola (206-F/C-80, agency: AAI Sports) came up with a stellar performance scoring 35 points and pulling down 13 rebounds to pace Argentina past Canada in Mexico City. Argentina therefore improved at 2-0 record on top of Group B. Argentina took a 46:42 halftime advantage. They unleashed 48 points in the second half to coast to the win. Nicolas Laprovittola (193-PG-90) netted 20 points in the victory. Anthony Bennett (203-F-93, college: UNLV, agency: Excel Sports Mngm) and Andrew Wiggins (203-G-95, college: Kansas, agency: BDA Sports) answered with 13 points each for Canada.

The draw for the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at midday on Thursday. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas on Wednesday confirmed Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay as host nations of the FIBA AmeriCup 2017, to be played from August 25 to September 3.
