Mexico - Argentina 95-83
Mexico earned a tough victory over Argentina to earn the third position in the standings. It was the first loss of the Argentinean team at the tournament. Gustavo Ayon (207-C/F-85, college: San Jose St., agency: Duran International) was unstoppable with 38 points and 14 rebounds for the hosts. Argentina built a 26:20 lead after the opening quarter. They arrived at the final break up by 13 points. But Mexico triggered a massive 36:11 run in the fourth period to get away with the victory. Jorge Gutierrez (190-G-88, college: California, agency: Wasserman Media) delivered 23 points for the home team. Luis Scola (206-F/C-80, agency: AAI Sports) responded with 26 points for Argentina.

Uruguay - Puerto Rico 69-80
Puerto Rico fired past Uruguay but could not advance into the semifinal stage in Mexico City. Jose Juan Barea (183-PG-84, college: Northeastern, agency: Relativity Sports) posted 19 points as Puerto Rico finished at 3-4 record in the fifth position in the ladder. Puerto Rico opened a 47:23 halftime lead. They dropped 20 points in the third term to take a 25-point lead at the final break. Uruguay narrowed the distance in the fourth quarter but could not avoid the loss. Renaldo Balkman (203-F-84, college: S.Carolina, agency: CAA Sports) tossed in 17 points and pulled down 9 rebounds for the winners. Bruno Fitipaldo (183-PG-91, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 15 points for Uruguay.

Dominican Republic - Canada 103-120
Canada outgunned Dominican Republic to clinch the top position at the Second Stage standings. Seven players scored in double digits for the North American side. Cory Joseph (190-PG-91, college: Texas, agency: Klutch Sports Group) accounted for 17 points and 7 assists in the win. Canada dropped 65 points in the first half to take a 19-point lead. They followed with a 55-point effort in the second half to cruise to the victory. Nik Stauskas (198-SG-93, college: Michigan, agency: Priority Sports) and Anthony Bennett (203-F-93, college: UNLV, agency: Excel Sports Mngm) accounted for 14 points each in the win. Gerardo Suero (193-G-89, college: Albany, agency: Basket Management Solutions) responded with 19 points and 6 rebounds for Dominican Republic.

Panama - Venezuela 62-75
Venezuela edged Panama to secure the fourth-place finish at the Second Stage of the tournament. John Cox (194-G-81, college: USF, agency: Pensack Sports) stepped up with 21 points and 6 rebounds to lead the winners. Venezuela overcame rather a slow start to take a 40:35 halftime lead. They held Panama to just 27 points in the second half and raced to the victory. Heissler Guillent (186-PG-86, agency: Enlace Deportivo) netted 13 points for the winners. Michael Hicks (196-F-76, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Agency) responded with 20 points for Panama.

The draw for the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at midday on Thursday. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas on Wednesday confirmed Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay as host nations of the FIBA AmeriCup 2017, to be played from August 25 to September 3.
