2010 Centrobasket, Day Two: JAMAICA - MEXICO 78-73
Jamaica made a huge step forward to Semifinals after 78-73 win against Mexico in Day Two. It means that Jamaica has perfect 2-0 in Preliminary Group A and currently is No.1. At the same time, Mexico faced with the first loss and dropped to 1-1. Simone Edwards (193-C-73, college: Iowa) stepped up for the winners with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Nicole Louden (172-G-83, college: Auburn) followed her with 21 points, 5 boards and 7 assists. Vanessa Gidden (191-C-85, college: Hofstra) also had important role in this win adding 13 points and 10 boards. Erika Gomez (187-F/C-76) replied with 19 points and 11 rebounds on the other side. Alexis Castro (183-G/F-86, agency: 22ft, college: Vermont) had 17 pts and 7 boards. Jamaica did a great job in the first and third quarter. After opening ten minutes, Simone Edwards and her teammates were 20-14 up. However, Mexico replied in the second frame making a 36-38 turn (HT). Jamaica recovered playing a great third quarter. They finished it with 24-15 for decent 7-point lead before the lat ten minutes. Last period belonged to Mexico, but they needed a way more in order to avoid defeat in this game. In Day Three, Jamaica will meet Dominican Republic. Mexico will play against the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Elitzur Netanya (D1) added to their roster 27-year old American (has also Jamaican passport) point guard Maurita Reid (173-85, college: Miami, FL). She just started the season at Besiktas in Turkish TKBL.
Reid was voted Eurobasket.com All-Croatian League Import Player of the Year in 2011.

Elitzur Netanya (D1) added to their roster 27-year old American (has also Jamaican passport) point guard Maurita Reid (173-85, college: Miami, FL). She just started the season at Besiktas in Turkish TKBL. Reid was voted Eurobasket.com All-Croatian League Import Player of the Year in 2011. She is quite experienced player. Reid has played also professionally in Poland (MUKS Poznan), Sweden (Udominate), WNBA (Washington Mystics and Seattle Storm), Israel (Ramat Hasharon), Croatia (Gospic and Lupa Promotion) and Armenia (Hatis Yerevan). She attended University of Miami, Florida until 2008 and it will be her fifth season as a professional player.

Hapoel Petah Tikva (D1) agreed terms with 27-year old Jamaican ex-international power forward Vanessa Gidden (193-85, college: Hofstra). Gidden played last season at Gea Magazzini Alcamo in Italian B league. In 22 games last year she had 9.3ppg and 10.1rpg.
Her team made it to the Finnish Cup Final Four in 2009.
Gidden was also selected to Eurobasket.com Italian A1 All-Defensive Team in 2011 [read more]

She attended Hofstra University until 2007 and it will be her sixth season as a professional player.

Riva Basket announced very important news. The team managed to keep 'LNA Forward of the Year' Rhona McKenzie (183-F-76, agency: LBM Management) for 2012/13 season. The Jamaican National Team member had 10.7 ppg, 10.7 rpg and 3.8 spg for 26 games with Riva. She joined them a year ago and helped to reach LNA and Swiss Cup Finals. McKenzie played for Belgian DBC Houthalen in 2010/11 and before that she spent three years with Sdent Sierre Basket. They were LNA champions together in 2009 and 2010 [read more]

In the past, Rhona McKenzie played in Holland and Luxembourg. She played for Jamaica at 2011 FIBA Americas in Neiva Huila and Centrobasket in Morovis this year.
