It took them seven tries but Lucea Flames finally won their first game in the Flow National Basketball League-West when they beat fellow promoted team Sav Hawks by 37 points (96-59) at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Saturday.
After their six-game winless streak, Flames exploded for 96 points, third highest points output by any team this season with only unbeaten Granville Jaguars, who have scored at least 100 points twice, topping them in that area.
Craig Dorman scored a game-high 24 points in his first game this season for the last-placed Flames as three players scored in double figures.
In the second game, MoBay Hoopers scored back-to-back wins when they beat Railway Tigers, 82-67, the second time they were beating Tigers this season.
In the first game of the day, Flames trailed Sav who suited up only eight players, by three points (17-20) after the first quarter but they outscored them by 28 points (51-23) over the next two quarters as they drove to their long overdue win.
Dorman also grabbed 12 rebounds along with six assists and nine turnovers, Julian Walker also had a double-double 23 points and 10 rebounds along with six steals and three assists, while Mitchell McLean continued his impressive run, scoring 10 points and had eight rebounds and two assists.
Hawks, who have lost six straight since winning their first two games, were led by Richard Chambers who scored 15 points and had five rebounds and five steals as well as two assists; Maurice Rodriques scored nine points and had 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and four steals, while Richard Russell scored eight points.
Hoopers also had a slow start against Tigers and were down 8-16 after the first quarter, and despite closing the gap in the second quarter, trailed by two points (29-31) at half-time.
They, however, dominated the second half, as they led by two points (52-50) before turning up the tempo in the fourth quarter to run out easy winners.
Four players led by the impressive Nicholas Watson and Marlon Comrie, all scored in double digits for MoBay Hoopers.
Watson had 19 points and 25 rebounds along with five steals and two assists, while Comrie also had 19 points and 19 rebounds, six blocked shots, eight steals and two assists. Dwayne Johns scored 13 points, while Rayon Bolt scored 11 points.

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Jamaicans who are currently playing abroad.
#1. This week's number one is former international center Roy Hibbert (218-86, college: Georgetown, currently plays in NBA). He led Indiana Pacers to a victory against the New York Knicks (54-28) 106-99 in the NBA in Saturday night's game.
Hibbert had a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 12 rebounds. He also added 5 blocks in 42 minutes on the court.
The Indiana Pacers have a solid 49-32 record this season.
It's Hibbert's fifth year with the team.
Hibbert belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #3 with 2.6bpg.
He also averaged so far 12.2ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 45.3%, 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 75.3% in the 92 games he played so far.
Hibbert is a naturalized American.
He played for the Jamaican senior national team three years ago.
#2. Second place goes to an international power forward Samardo Samuels (206-89, college: Louisville, currently plays in Israel). Samuels contributed to a Hapoel Jerusalem's victory against the fourth-ranked GreenTops Netanya (15-12) 79-68 in the Israeli Winner League on Thursday night.
He scored 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes.
Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem (13-14) is placed fifth in Places 1-6 group.
Samuels has relatively good stats this year: 11.3ppg, 3.6rpg, 2FGP: 48.5% and FT: 66.2% in the 10 games.
He is in the roster of the Jamaican senior national team.
#3. The Jamaican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Oritseweyinmi Efejuku (196-86, college: Providence, currently plays in Puerto Rico). Efejuku was the major contributor in Indios' victory against the league outsider Vaqueros (6-17) 85-74 in the Puerto Rican BSN on Thursday night.
He scored 18 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists.
Indios de Mayaguez (14-9) is placed third in the BSN.
It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row.
Efejuku has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.1ppg, 5.2rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 48.6%, 3FGP: 29.6% and FT: 83.3%.
Efejuku has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and Jamaican.
He is also a member of the Jamaican senior national team.
#4. An experienced forward Mugabe Thomas (193-80, college: Cedarville, currently plays in Mexico), who plays in the Mexican CIBACOPA could not help Tijuana Zonkeys (14-12) in their last game. Despite Thomas' very good performance Tijuana Zonkeys lost 90-98 on the road to the lower-ranked (#5) Mineros de Cananea.
He scored 18 points, had 9 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 24 minutes.
This year Thomas has relatively solid stats: 11.0ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.3apg in the seven games.
He used to play for the Jamaican national team
back in 2006.
#5. International point guard Akeem Scott (186-83, college: High Point, currently plays in Venezuela), who plays in the Venezuelan LPB was not able to help Guaiqueries (19-32) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance Guaiqueries was badly defeated 105-87 in Valencia by the higher-ranked Trotamundos (#7).
Scott was the top scorer with 18 points. He also added made 4 passes and 4 steals.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Scott has reliable stats this season: 10.8ppg, 2.2rpg, 2.4apg and 3.6spg.
He is a naturalized American.
Worth to mention Scott played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Scott plays currently for the Jamaican national team.
#6. Forward Ronald Yates (201-83, college: St.Peter's, currently plays in Switzerland), who plays in the Swiss LNA was not able to secure a victory for Fribourg (17-6) in their last game. Despite his good performance Fribourg lost 61-72 at home to the lower-ranked (#3) Lugano Tigers.
Yates was the second best scorer with 13 points. He also added 9 rebounds in 30 minutes.
Yates' stats this year are: 13.1ppg, 6.0rpg and 2.3apg in the 33 games.
He is a naturalized American.
Yates is a former international player as he played for the Jamaican senior team three years ago.
#7. Former international power forward Ryan Reid (203-86, college: Florida St., currently plays in France) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Chorale de Roanne (17-13) in their game against Chalon/Saor (18-12) in the French ProA.
He scored 7 points.
Chorale de Roanne was crushed 91-63 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Chalon/Saor (#4).
Reid's overall stats this season are: 6.5ppg and 4.1rpg.
He is a naturalized American.
Reid used to play for the Jamaican national team

The list of other players, who all have Jamaican passport but never been selected to any of Jamaican national teams:
#1.Adrian Uter (200-F/C-84, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Israel) led Maccabi Rishon to a victory over the second-ranked Hapoel Eilat (17-10) 79-70 in the Israeli Winner League last Sunday.
Uter was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 14 rebounds. Uter also added 4 assists and 5 blocks.
Maccabi Rishon Le-Zion (12-15) is placed sixth in Places 1-6 group.
It was his team's first victory after six consecutive loses.
Uter is currently fourth on the league's list of best rebounders and also on the list of best blockers (fourth place).
He has individually a very good season with high stats. Uter averages: 15.3ppg, 9.4rpg, 2.2apg, 1.6bpg and 1.4spg.
He is a naturalized American.
#2.Sherman Gay (201-PF-82, college: Loyola Mary, currently plays in France), who plays in the French ProB (second division) could not help Le Portel (20-14) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Gay's very good performance Le Portel was defeated 80-75 on the road by the second-ranked ALM Evreux.
He was the top scorer with 22 points. Gay also added 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks.
Gay belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #2.
This season he has very high stats. Gay averages: 16.3ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.1apg and 1.5bpg.
He is a naturalized American.
#3. Experienced Bryan Bailey (185-SG-80, college: Bucknell, currently plays in Italy) contributed to an Lottomatica Roma's victory against the closely-ranked Trenkwalder RE (18-12) 72-59 in the Italian SerieA last Tuesday.
Bailey recorded 6 points and added 3 assists in only 14 minutes.
Acea Virtus Roma (20-10) is placed third in the SerieA.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
This year Bailey averages: 4.5ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.9apg in the eight games he played so far.

Guaiqueries de Margarita (LPB) added to their roster 30-year old Jamaican ex-international point guard Akeem Scott (186-82kg-83, college: High Point). He just played at Pioneros in Mexican LNBP. In 42 games he recorded 12.4ppg, 3.0rpg, 3.2apg and 1.4spg this season. The last season Scott played at Mornar Bar (1A) in Montenegrin league. A very spectacular season in his career as he was selected Eurobasket.com All-Montenegrin League Import Player of the Year. Scott also played 12 games in Balkan League where he averaged impressive 16.1ppg, 3.6rpg, 2.2apg and 2.4spg. He contributed to his team making it to the quarterfinals. Great season indeed as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Balkan League Honorable Mention. The previous (2011) summer Scott played at Geneva in U.S. semi-pro league Eurobasket S.League. In three ESL games he averaged remarkable 21.7ppg, 3.0rpg and 4.7apg. He also represented Jamaica at the Centrobasket in San Juan (Puerto Rico) last year. Scott's team won Bronze and his stats at that event were 6 games: 11.7ppg, 3.2rpg, 2.8apg, Steals-4 (2.2spg), FGP: 48.4%, 3PT: 35.5%, FT: 70.0%. Scott has played also professionally in Finland (Espoo Honka, UU-Korihait, PuHu and Lappeenranta NMKY), Latvia (Ventspils) and SEBL (Baseline). He is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Scott attended High Point University until 2006 and it is his seventh season as a professional player. On Scott:

Akeem is a tremendous competitor with great speed and a good basketball mind.
