It took them seven tries but Lucea Flames finally won their first game in the Flow National Basketball League-West when they beat fellow promoted team Sav Hawks by 37 points (96-59) at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Saturday.

After their six-game winless streak, Flames exploded for 96 points, third highest points output by any team this season with only unbeaten Granville Jaguars, who have scored at least 100 points twice, topping them in that area.

Craig Dorman scored a game-high 24 points in his first game this season for the last-placed Flames as three players scored in double figures.

In the second game, MoBay Hoopers scored back-to-back wins when they beat Railway Tigers, 82-67, the second time they were beating Tigers this season.

In the first game of the day, Flames trailed Sav who suited up only eight players, by three points (17-20) after the first quarter but they outscored them by 28 points (51-23) over the next two quarters as they drove to their long overdue win.

Dorman also grabbed 12 rebounds along with six assists and nine turnovers, Julian Walker also had a double-double 23 points and 10 rebounds along with six steals and three assists, while Mitchell McLean continued his impressive run, scoring 10 points and had eight rebounds and two assists.

Hawks, who have lost six straight since winning their first two games, were led by Richard Chambers who scored 15 points and had five rebounds and five steals as well as two assists; Maurice Rodriques scored nine points and had 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and four steals, while Richard Russell scored eight points.

Hoopers also had a slow start against Tigers and were down 8-16 after the first quarter, and despite closing the gap in the second quarter, trailed by two points (29-31) at half-time.

They, however, dominated the second half, as they led by two points (52-50) before turning up the tempo in the fourth quarter to run out easy winners.

Four players led by the impressive Nicholas Watson and Marlon Comrie, all scored in double digits for MoBay Hoopers.

Watson had 19 points and 25 rebounds along with five steals and two assists, while Comrie also had 19 points and 19 rebounds, six blocked shots, eight steals and two assists. Dwayne Johns scored 13 points, while Rayon Bolt scored 11 points.
