Dominican Republic post the second straight win at the Coloseum Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. The team overcame Jamaica 80:64 and stepped closer to qualify for the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship.
Jamaica grabbed 21-19 lead at the end of the first period, but could not keep the lead for good. Dominican Republic managed to tie the score at the halftime and dominated the second half. They won the third period 21-11 and finished the game with 22-16 in the last stanza.
Alfred Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida) top-scored for the winners with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Elpidio Fortuna (186-G-85) and Juan Coronado (196-G-83) netted 19 each. Suero Angel added 8 points for the winners. Samardo Samuels (206-F/C-89, college: Louisville) and Oritseweyinmi Efejuku (196-G-86, college: Providence) replied with 15 points in the losing effort. Jerome Jordan (213-C-86, college: Tulsa) had 13, whilst Ewing Patrick nailed 10.

DANE JOHNSON Toros de Aragua (LPB) added to their roster 32-year old American (has also Jamaican passport) center Dane Johnson (208-86kg-86, college: Hofstra). It is actually his comeback to Maracay as he has played here before. Johnson moved there from played at Larre Borges in Uruguayan LUB league where he started the season. We bring you last week's top performances from Jamaicans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. Sek Henry (193-G-87) could not help Maccabi Ashdod (17-6) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Maccabi Ashdod was edged 72-71 at home by the lower-ranked (#5) Hapoel Tel-Aviv.    [read more]
