Jamaica advanced to 2013 FIBA Americas Championship after a thrilling victory over Mexico. In Day 4 Jamaica needed 76:74 win to take the second place in the group. They started with 19-18 and added massive 20-9 in the second frame. Both teams scored 15 points each in the third period and it was really hot in the court in the last stanza. Although Mexico won 32-22 the last period it was not enough to win the game. Samardo Samuels (206-F/C-89, college: Louisville) top-scored for the winners with 23 points and 15 rebounds.
In the semifinals Jamaica will face Puerto Rico. The latter advanced to the Semifinal of the home tournament at the Coloseum Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey. The hosts won over Cuba in Day 4 and finished the tournament with 4-0 record. In Day 4 Puerto Rico overcame Cuba 95:61. The hosts easily reached 27-20 after the first 10 minutes and added 16-9 in the second frame. Moreover they won the third quarter 26-12 and finished the game with 26-20. Sanchez Ricardo stepped up with 13 points for the winners, while Ramos Peter, Rosario Michael and Alexander Galindo (200-F-85, college: FIU) had 12 each. Orestes Torres (203-C-87) finished the game with 14 points in the losing effort.

We bring you last week's top performances from Jamaicans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. Sek Henry (193-G-87) could not help Maccabi Ashdod (17-6) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Maccabi Ashdod was edged 72-71 at home by the lower-ranked (#5) Hapoel Tel-Aviv.    [read more]

AKEEM SCOTT Nauticos of Mazatlan (CIBACOPA) agreed terms with experienced 34-year old Jamaican international guard Akeem Scott (185-82kg-83, college: High Point). He moved there from played at Saigon Heat in Vietnamese VBA league where he started the season. In 21 games he had very impressive stats: 24.6ppg, 6.4rpg, 3.8apg and 2.9spg this season.
