Here is the weekly review of the top performing Jamaican players, who play currently abroad.


Roy Hibbert

   #1. This week's number one is former international center Roy Hibbert (218-86, college: Georgetown, currently plays in NBA). He led Indiana Pacers to a 2-point victory against the Toronto Raptors (1-4) 90-88 in the NBA in Wednesday night's game. Hibbert scored 14 points, grabbed 9 boards, handed out 3 passes and blocked 5 shots in 29 minutes on the court. The Indiana Pacers have 2-3 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Hibbert's fifth year with the team. He belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #3 with 3.0bpg. Hibbert also averaged so far 8.8ppg, 7.6rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 42.6% and FT: 44.4% in the five games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Hibbert played for the Jamaican senior national team two years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Samardo Samuels (206-89, college: Louisville, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Cleveland Cavaliers (2-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Samuels' good performance the Cleveland Cavaliers were defeated 106-96 on the road by the Golden State Warriors. He scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Samuels averages: 6.7ppg, 4.3rpg, 2FGP: 56.3%(9-16). He is in the roster of the Jamaican senior national team.

   #3. The Jamaican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Patrick Ewing Jr. (203-84, college: Georgetown, currently plays in Germany). He was the major contributor in a Telekom Baskets' victory against the fourth-ranked EWE Baskets (5-2) crushing them 90-57 in the German BBL in Saturday night's game. Ewing Jr. recorded 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Telekom Baskets Bonn (3-3) is placed ninth in the BBL. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Ewing Jr. has relatively good stats this season: 11.0ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 53.7%, 3FGP: 8.3% and FT: 95.0%(19-20). He is a naturalized American. Ewing Jr. is also a member of the Jamaican senior national team.

   #4. Guard Oritseweyinmi Efejuku (196-86, college: Providence, currently plays in Mexico) led Fuerza Regia to an easy victory against the 14th-ranked Gansos (3-18) 108-92 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) in Sunday night's game. Efejuku scored 14 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 25 minutes. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (11-8) is placed seventh in the LNBP. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. It's Efejuku's first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Efejuku averages: 18.2ppg, 4.1rpg and 2.6apg in the 11 games. He has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and Jamaican. Efejuku is also Jamaican national team player.

Akeem Scott

   #5. International point guard Akeem Scott (186-83, college: High Point, currently plays in Mexico) led Pioneros to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Gigantes (2-18) crushing them 103-73 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) on Saturday night. He scored 11 points in only a mere 14 minutes. Pioneros de Quintana Roo-Cancun (11-11) is placed fifth in the LNBP. This year Scott has relatively solid stats: 14.7ppg, 2.9rpg, 3.3apg and 1.7spg in the 18 games. He is a naturalized American. Worth to mention Scott played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Scott plays currently for the Jamaican national team.

   #6. Center Kevin Young (206-84, college: Missouri, currently plays in Japan) led Aishin Sea Horses to a victory against the league outsider Tochigi Brex (1-9) 58-51 in the Japanese JBL in Sunday night's game. He scored 11 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Aishin Sea Horses (7-3) are placed third in the JBL. Young belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #3. His overall stats this season are: 8.3ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.3bpg. Young is a former international player as he played for the Jamaican senior team six years ago.

   #7. Former international forward Ronald Yates (201-83, college: St.Peter's, currently plays in Switzerland) contributed to a 2-point Fribourg's victory against the closely-ranked Geneve Lions (3-2) 83-81 in the Swiss LNA on Saturday night. He scored 9 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 7 assists in 34 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Benetton Fribourg Olympic (4-1) is placed second in the LNA. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Yates has reliable stats this year: 10.2ppg, 4.6rpg, 3.2apg and 1.4spg in the five games. He is a naturalized American. Yates used to play for the Jamaican national team two years ago.

   #8. Power forward Ryan Reid (203-86, college: Florida St., currently plays in France) was not able to help Chorale de Roanne (1-4) in their game against Le Mans (4-1) in the French ProA. He scored only 4 points. The bottom-ranked Chorale de Roanne was defeated in an overtime 72-65 in Le Mans by the much higher-ranked Le Mans (#3). Reid's overall stats this season are: 4.4ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.2apg. He is a naturalized American. Reid used to play for the Jamaican national team last year.

   #9. International forward Courtney Walters (208-87, college: Northwood, FL, currently plays in Switzerland) managed to help BBC Nyon in a victory against the closely-ranked Boncourt (3-2) 83-79 in the Swiss LNA last Saturday. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 24 minutes. BBC Nyon (2-3) is placed seventh in the LNA. Walters is currently fifth on the league's list of best rebounders with 8.4rpg. This year he also averages: 6.4ppg in the five games. Walters is also in the roster of the Jamaican national team.

   #1. Bryan Bailey (185-PG-80, college: Bucknell, currently plays in Germany) led BBC Bayreuth to a victory over the league outsider LTi 46ers (1-6) 95-86 in the German BBL on Sunday night. Bailey was MVP of the game. He recorded 18 points and added 6 assists in 20 minutes. BBC Bayreuth (5-2) is placed third in the BBL. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Bailey is currently fourth on the league's list of best passers with 4.2apg. This year his other stats are: 13.2ppg and 3.7rpg in the six games he played so far. Bailey is a naturalized American.

   #2. Orane Chin (200-F-88, college: CS Fullerton, currently plays in Denmark), who plays in the Danish Ligaen could not help one of league's weakest teams Bakken (9-1) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Bakken lost 100-114 on the road to the leading Svendborg. Chin was the second best scorer with 23 points. He also added 4 rebounds in 29 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Chin's first season in pro basketball. Chin has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.3ppg, 7.2rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1spg in the nine games.

   #3. Adrian Uter (200-F/C-84, agency: Gross Zeev ISA, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Israel) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Maccabi Rishon (3-1) in their game against Hapoel Tel-Aviv (3-1) in the Israeli Winner League. Uter recorded 6 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Maccabi Rishon was badly defeated 80-63 at home by the second-ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv. It was Maccabi Rishon's first loss after three consecutive victories. Uter is currently seventh on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (third place). This season he has very high stats. Uter averages: 17.0ppg, 10.5rpg, 1.3apg, 2.5bpg and 1.3spg. He is a naturalized American.

   #4. Jermaine Bucknor (199-F-83, college: Richmond, currently plays in Germany) was not able to secure a victory for TBB Trier (4-2) in their game against ALBA Berlin (3-2) in the German BBL. He recorded 8 points and blocked 2 blocks. TBB Trier was defeated 88-80 on their home court in Trier by the lower-ranked ALBA Berlin (#8). It was TBB Trier's first loss after three consecutive victories. Bucknor's overall stats this season are: 8.3ppg and 2.5rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Jamaican and Canadian.

   #5. Sherman Gay (201-PF-82, college: Loyola Mary, currently plays in France) contributed to a Le Portel's victory against the 11th-ranked JL Bourg (3-4) 71-60 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. He recorded 13 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in 28 minutes. ESSM Le Portel Cote d'Opale (5-2) is placed third in the ProB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Gay is currently fourth on the league's list of best blockers with 1.3bpg. This year he also averages: 15.4ppg and 6.1rpg in the seven games. Gay is a naturalized American.

   #6. Corey Muirhead (197-F-83, college: W.Carolina, currently plays in Czech Republic), who plays in the Czech Republic NBL couldn't help BK Pardubice (3-4) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance BK Pardubice was crushed 99-73 in Nymburk by the leading CEZ Nymburk. Muirhead recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 11 rebounds. Muirhead is currently second on the league's list of best rebounders. He has very reliable stats this season: 13.7ppg, 9.8rpg, 2.3apg and 1.5spg. Muirhead is another player who holds two passports: Canadian and Jamaican.

   #7. Experienced Corey Williams (191-G-77, college: Alabama St., currently plays in Lebanon) couldn't help Bejjeh in their game against Al Riyadi in the Lebanese Division A, despite his very good performance in Friday night's game. He was the top scorer with 18 points. Williams also added 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in 36 minutes. It was his first game for Bejjeh this season. But his team was crushed by 28 points 89-61. Williams is currently third on the league's list of most steals with 3 steals. He is a naturalized American.

   #8. Geoff McDermott (203-F-87, agency: Interperformances, college: Providence, currently plays in Spain) helped Palencia Baloncesto win their game against the 12th-ranked Caceres Basket 87-84 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Friday. McDermott scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. His overall stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.8apg and 2.0spg. McDermott is a naturalized American.

   #9. Andrew Hunter (201-F-79, college: Sacred Heart, currently plays in United Kingdom) helped Reading Rockets win their game against the 12th-ranked Derby Trailblazers 68-58 in the British EBL D1 (second division) on Sunday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Hunter's overall stats this season are: 9.5ppg, 8.0rpg, 2.0apg and 2.0spg. He has both Canadian and Jamaican nationalities.

Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez (ProA) added to their roster 29-year old American (has also Jamaican passport) guard Sek Henry (193-91kg-87, college: Nebraska). He played last season at CAI Zaragoza in Spanish Liga Endesa. In 31 games he had 5.3ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.6apg. Henry also played 16 games in Eurocup where he recorded 4.8ppg, 1.5rpg and 2.8apg. Yalova Group Belediye Spor (TBL) signed 27-year old American (has also Jamaican passport) power forward Kyle Hunt (208-104kg-89, college: Oklahoma S&A). He was about to sign at CSU Asesoft Ploiesti in Romanian Liga Nationala. The last season Hunt played at Halifax Hurricanes in Canadian NBL Canada where in 52 games he had 14.3ppg and 6.1rpg. Tyran De Lattibeaudiere joins Granada - 7 days ago

Coviran Granada (LEB Silver) agreed terms with 25-year old Jamaican forward Tyran De Lattibeaudiere (201-104kg-91, college: Lamar) from Araberri. In 36 LEB Silver games in Spain he had 14.4ppg, 8.2rpg, 1.5apg, 1.6spg and 1.7bpg last season. He helped them to win the LEB Silver Play-Off title.
