We bring you last week's top performances from Jamaicans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Kimani Ffriend

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international center Kimani Ffriend (211-77, college: Nebraska, currently plays in Serbia). He was the major contributor in a Dynamic BG's victory against the seventh-ranked Tamis (9-7) crushing them 95-70 in the Serbian KLS in Friday night's game. Ffriend recorded 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and made 3 blocks in 23 minutes on the court. Dynamic BG Beograd (13-3) is placed second in the KLS. It's Ffriend's first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Ffriend averages: 18.0ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.8apg, 2.0bpg, 2FGP: 67.3%(33-49) and FT: 75.0% in five games he played so far. He played for the Jamaican senior national team five years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point, currently plays in Chile). He led Universidad de Concepcion to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked CD Tinguiririca San Fernando (9-23) 106-89 in the Chilean Liga Nacional on Saturday night. Scott scored 23 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 7 assists. CD Universidad de Concepcion (20-10) is placed second in Conferencia Centro. This season Scott has very high stats. He averages: 18.9ppg, 6.3rpg, 4.0apg, 2.8spg, 2FGP: 50.2%, 3FGP: 27.4% and FT: 79.3%. Scott is a naturalized American. Worth to mention Scott played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He played for the Jamaican national team in 2014.

   #3. The Jamaican player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Adrian Uter (200-84, agency: BeoBasket, college: Hofstra, currently plays in France). Uter could not help ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (10-8) to beat JSF Nanterre (12-6). He scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 19 minutes. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket lost 74-88 on the road to the higher-ranked (#4) JSF Nanterre. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. This year Uter's overall stats are: 9.4ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.2apg, 1.2bpg, 2FGP: 50.5%, 3FGP: 27.8% and FT: 60.4% in 17 games. He is a naturalized American. Uter played for the Jamaican national team four years ago.

   #4. Center Jerome Jordan (215-86, college: Tulsa, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Joventut (5-14) in their last game. Despite his good performance Joventut lost 75-89 in Tenerife to the second-ranked CB Canarias. Jordan scored 10 points in 27 minutes. Jordan has relatively good stats this year: 10.1ppg and 5.1rpg in 13 games. He used to play for the Jamaican national team back in 2014.

Former international power forward Ryan Reid (204-86, college: Florida St., currently plays in Japan) contributed to an easy victory against the leader Gunma (23-11) crushing them 69-49 in the Japanese B League D2 on Saturday night. Reid scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group West. Shimane Susanoo Magic (27-6) is placed second. It was his team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. Reid's total stats this season are: 8.4ppg and 5.9rpg. He is a naturalized American. Reid used to play for the Jamaican national team six years ago.

Swingman Durand Scott (196-90, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Italy) was not able to secure a victory for Enel Brindisi (8-10) in their game against Grissin Bon RE (10-8) in the Italian Serie A. Scott scored 7 points. Enel Brindisi was defeated 98-84 in Reggio Emilia by the much higher-ranked Grissin Bon RE (#4). This season Scott has very high stats. He averages: 15.7ppg, 5.2rpg, 2.5apg and 1.2spg. Scott is a naturalized American. He is a former international player as he played for the Jamaican senior team four years ago.

   #7. Former international guard Dylan Ennis (187-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to a 1-point Oregon's victory against the Arizona State University (1-1) 71-70 in the NCAA in Thursday night's game. He recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. The University of Oregon has 5-0 conference record this season. So far his team won all five games in the conference. This season Ennis has relatively solid stats: 11.0ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.3apg and 1.1spg. He used to play for the Jamaican national team three years ago.

   #8. Power forward Adrian Forbes (211-88, agency: Haylett Sports, college: Auburn, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Kagawa FA (10-24) in their game against Nishinomiya Storks (24-10) in the Japanese B League D2. He scored 5 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks. The fifth-placed Kagawa FA (10-24) were badly defeated 87-68 in Hyogo by the second-ranked Nishinomiya Storks in the West group. It was Kagawa FA's fifth consecutive loss in a row. Forbes' total stats this season are: 5.6ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.2bpg. He used to play for the Jamaican national team back in 2014.


The list of other players, who all have Jamaican passport but never been selected to any of Jamaican national teams:

   #1. Omari Johnson (206-F-89, college: Oregon St., currently plays in Lithuania) led Neptunas to a 3-point victory over the eighth-ranked Dzukija (6-16) 69-66 in the Lithuanian LKL last Saturday. Johnson was MVP of the game. He recorded 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Neptunas Klaipeda (12-10) is placed fourth in the LKL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Johnson's overall stats this season are: 8.1ppg and 4.8rpg. He is a naturalized American.

   #2. Sek Henry (193-G-87, college: Nebraska, currently plays in France) could not help Gravelines-Dunkerque (10-8) in their last game. Despite Henry's very good performance Gravelines-Dunkerque was edged 89-87 on the road by the much lower-ranked (#14) JDA Dijon. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Henry also added 4 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 4 balls in 37 minutes. It was Gravelines-Dunkerque's first loss after three consecutive victories. Henry has relatively good stats this year: 13.9ppg, 3.9rpg, 2.5apg and 1.4spg in 12 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American.

   #3. Experienced Torin Francis (210-C-83, college: Notre Dame, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to help La Union (5-18) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Francis' very good performance the seventh-placed La Union (5-18) was crushed 84-62 in Sunchales by the lower-ranked Libertad (#7) in the Norte group. He recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. Francis has relatively good stats this season: 13.7ppg and 8.2rpg. He is a naturalized American.

   #4. Jevohn Shepherd (196-G/F-86, college: Michigan, currently plays in Belgium) was the major contributor in a Spirou Charleroi's victory against the closely-ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut (8-10) 80-61 in the Belgian Euromillions League last Friday. Shepherd scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 24 minutes. Proximus Spirou Charleroi (10-8) is placed third in the Euromillions League. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Shepherd has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg, 3.9rpg and 1.7apg in 15 games. He has a dual citizenship: Canadian and Jamaican.

   #5. Ryan Martin (206-F-91, college: Tenn Tech, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for STB Le Havre (8-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance STB Le Havre was defeated 83-76 in Roanne by the lower-ranked Chorale de (#10). Martin scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line). It was his first game for STB Le Havre this season. Martin is another player who holds two passports: Jamaican and British. Despite his Jamaican nationality, Martin previously played for the British U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Jamaican team.

   #6. Justin Rutty (200-F-89, agency: HMS, college: Quinnipiac, currently plays in Uruguay) led Union Atletica to a victory against the sixth-ranked Cordon 100-94 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB on Wednesday night. He had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 11 rebounds. Rutty also added 3 assists in 34 minutes. Rutty has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 18.3ppg, 10.0rpg and 1.9apg in nine games. Rutty is a naturalized American.

   #7. Sherman Gay (201-F/C-82, college: Loyola Mary, currently plays in Finland) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Tampereen Pyrinto crushing them 92-72 in the Finnish Korisliiga in Wednesday night's game. He scored 22 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. This season Gay has very high stats. He averages: 20.3ppg, 6.9rpg, 2.0bpg and 1.2spg. Gay is a naturalized American.

   #8. Phil Henry (203-PF-91, agency: Global Sports Plaza, college: E.New Mexico, currently plays in Slovakia) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Nova Ves in their game against Karlovka in the Slovakian SBL, despite his very good performance in Wednesday night's game. He had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 10 rebounds. Henry also added 3 assists in 37 minutes. But his team was badly defeated by 19 points 90-71. Henry has very impressive stats this year: 16.1ppg, 8.6rpg and 1.1apg in 28 games. He is a naturalized American.

   #9. Jermaine Bucknor (201-F-83, college: Richmond, currently plays in Germany) contributed to Gladiators' victory against the 11th-ranked Chemnitz 71-58 in the German ProA (second division) on Friday night. Bucknor scored 8 points, had 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 21 minutes. It was his first game for Gladiators this season. Bucknor has both Jamaican and Canadian nationalities.

   #10. Tyran De Lattibeaudiere (201-F-91, college: Lamar, currently plays in Spain) led CB Granada to a victory over one of league's weakest teams CB Tarragona 2017 96-89 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Saturday. De Lattibeaudiere was MVP of the game. He recorded 21 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. De Lattibeaudiere has reliable stats this year: 12.7ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3bpg in 20 games.

Enel Basket Brindisi (Serie A) strengthened their roster with addition of 28-year old Jamaican international power forward Samardo Samuels (206-122kg-89, college: Louisville). He started the season at Jiangsu Nangang Dragons Nanjing in Chinese CBA league. In 22 games he recorded very impressive stats: 20.2ppg, 7.5rpg and 1.4apg this season. This week's number one is an experienced former international power forward Adrian Uter (200-84, agency: BeoBasket). He could not help ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (11-11) in their last game. Despite Uter's good performance ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket lost 68-77 on the road to the second-ranked Chalon/Saor.    [read more]
