Adrian Uter's double-double lands him Player of the Week award among Jamaicans playing currently abroad: - Mar 9, 2017

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Jamaican players, who play currently abroad.


Adrian Uter

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international power forward Adrian Uter (200-84, agency: BeoBasket, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). He could not help ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (10-4) in their last game. Despite Uter's good performance the second-placed ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (10-4) was edged 67-67 on the road by the lower-ranked (#4) Aris in the group C of Basketball Champions League. He had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 12 rebounds. Uter also added 3 assists in 21 minutes on the court. This year Uter averages: 9.1ppg, 4.6rpg, 1.9apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 45.1%, 3FGP: 35.3% and FT: 63.2% in 16 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Uter played for the Jamaican senior national team four years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international center Kimani Ffriend (211-77, college: Nebraska, currently plays in Serbia). He was the major contributor in a 2-point Dynamic BG's victory against the league outsider Konstantin (1-18) 93-91 in the Serbian KLS last Saturday. Ffriend recorded 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Dynamic BG Beograd (15-4) is placed second in the KLS. Ffriend has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.3ppg, 6.8rpg, 2.0apg, 1.4bpg, 2FGP: 58.1%(43-74) and FT: 69.8%. Ffriend played for the Jamaican national team in 2012.

   #3. The Jamaican player who performed third best last week abroad was former international swingman Durand Scott (196-90, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Italy). Scott led Enel Brindisi to a victory against the league outsider Vanoli Cremona (6-15) 94-82 in the Italian Serie A in Sunday night's game. He scored 19 points, had 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line). Enel Basket Brindisi (10-11) is placed tenth in the Serie A. This season Scott has very high stats. He averages: 16.1ppg, 5.6rpg, 3.0apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 46.7%, 3FGP: 36.9% and FT: 73.0%. Scott is a naturalized American. He played for the Jamaican national team four years ago.

   #4. Guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point, currently plays in Chile) was not able to help Universidad de Concepcion (20-10) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Universidad de Concepcion (#2) lost 74-86 in Talca to the lower-ranked (#3) Espanol de in the Conferencia Centro. Scott was the top scorer with 24 points. He also added 5 rebounds in 36 minutes. It's Scott's first season with the team. Scott has very impressive stats this year: 19.4ppg, 6.1rpg, 3.7apg and 2.9spg in 36 games. He is a naturalized American. Worth to mention Scott played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Scott used to play for the Jamaican national team back in 2014.

   #5. Former international center Jerome Jordan (215-86, college: Tulsa, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Joventut's surprising victory against the third-ranked Movil Estudiantes (16-5) 77-71 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Jordan also added 3 blocks. Divina Seguros Juventut Badalona (7-15) is placed 14th in the Liga Endesa. Jordan has relatively good stats this season: 10.3ppg and 5.6rpg. He used to play for the Jamaican national team three years ago.

   #6. Power forward Ryan Reid (204-86, college: Florida St., currently plays in Japan) contributed to a Shimane Magic's victory against the fourth-ranked Tokyo Excellence (15-26) 91-77 in the Japanese B League D2 in Friday night's game. Reid recorded 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in a mere 18 minutes. Shimane Susanoo Magic (35-6) is placed first in West group. It was his team's 17th consecutive victory in a row. This year Reid's overall stats are: 8.6ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.1apg in 42 games. He is a naturalized American. Reid is a former international player as he played for the Jamaican senior team six years ago.

   #7. Former international power forward Adrian Forbes (211-88, agency: Haylett Sports, college: Auburn, currently plays in Japan) was not able to secure a victory for Kagawa FA (12-30) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Forbes' good performance Kagawa FA (#5) were defeated 77-69 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Yamagata (#3) in the West group. He recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 13 rebounds. Forbes also added 3 blocks. Forbes' total stats this season are: 5.7ppg, 7.3rpg and 1.2bpg. He used to play for the Jamaican national team three years ago.

   #8. Guard Dylan Ennis (187-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help University of Oregon in a victory against the Oregon State University (16-2) crushing them 80-59 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. Ennis recorded 5 points and added 4 passes in 32 minutes. The University of Oregon has a very solid 11-2 conference record this season. It was his team's 11th consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the NCAA Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This year Ennis has relatively solid stats: 10.9ppg, 4.1rpg, 3.1apg and 1.1spg in 31 games. He used to play for the Jamaican national team back in 2014.


The list of other players, who all have Jamaican passport but never been selected to any of Jamaican national teams:

   #1. Experienced Torin Francis (210-C-83, college: Notre Dame, currently plays in Argentina) led La Union to a victory over the fourth-ranked GECR Indalo (19-21) 85-73 in the Argentinian LigaA on Friday night. He was MVP of the game. Francis recorded 26 points (!!!) and grabbed 7 rebounds in 32 minutes. La Union Formosa (8-22) is placed seventh in Norte group. Francis has relatively good stats this year: 14.5ppg and 8.1rpg in 37 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American.

   #2. Sherman Gay (201-F/C-82, college: Loyola Mary, currently plays in Finland) was the main contributor in KTP-Basket's victory against the league outsider UU-Korihait (5-26) 92-73 in the Finnish Korisliiga last Friday. He was MVP of the game. Gay recorded 25 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. KTP Basket Kotka (12-20) is placed eighth in the Korisliiga. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Gay has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 20.1ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.9bpg and 1.3spg. Gay is a naturalized American.

   #3. Phil Henry (203-PF-91, agency: Global Sports Plaza, college: E.New Mexico, currently plays in Slovakia) could not help Nova Ves (7-28) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Nova Ves was crushed 106-81 on the road by the second-ranked Inter Bratislava. Henry had a double-double by scoring 29 points and getting 10 rebounds in 36 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. It was Nova Ves' fourth consecutive loss in a row. Henry has very impressive stats this year: 16.4ppg, 9.0rpg and 1.1apg in 32 games. He is a naturalized American.

   #4. Jevohn Shepherd (196-G/F-86, college: Michigan, currently plays in Belgium) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Spirou Charleroi in their game against Okapi Aalstar (12-11) in the Belgian Euromillions League. Shepherd recorded 8 points. Spirou Charleroi was defeated 85-78 in Aalstar by the higher-ranked Okapi (#5). It was Spirou Charleroi's third consecutive loss in a row. This season Shepherd has relatively solid stats: 11.2ppg, 3.8rpg and 1.8apg. He has a dual citizenship: Canadian and Jamaican.

   #5. Dwayne Smith (198-F-89, college: G.Washington, currently plays in Argentina) contributed to Olimpo's victory against the fifth-ranked Rocamora (12-17) 82-77 in the Argentinian TNA (second division) last Friday. Smith recorded 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 25 minutes. Olimpo de Bahia Blanca (16-11) is placed fourth in South group. The Regular Season already ended. This year Smith has relatively solid stats: 13.3ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.4spg in 25 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Canadian and Jamaican.

   #6. Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson (178-PG-91, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to secure a victory for Galitos-Barreiro (14-9) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Ogungbemi-Jackson's good performance Galitos-Barreiro (#5) was edged 76-74 on the opponent's court by the second-ranked Benfica in the Places 1-6 group. He was the top scorer with 11 points. Ogungbemi-Jackson also added 6 rebounds. This season Ogungbemi-Jackson has very high stats. He averages: 19.2ppg, 3.7rpg, 4.7apg and 1.2spg. Similarly like Smith and Shepherd above Ogungbemi-Jackson has both Canadian and Jamaican nationalities. Despite his Jamaican passport, Ogungbemi-Jackson previously played for the Canadian university national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Jamaican team.

   #7. Sek Henry (193-G-87, college: Nebraska, currently plays in France) couldn't help Gravelines-Dunkerque in their game against Limoges CSP Elite in the French ProA. He cannot count Monday's game as one of the best ones. Henry scored only 3 points in 36 minutes. His team lost 77-88. This year Henry has relatively solid stats: 12.6ppg, 3.8rpg, 2.3apg and 1.4spg in 14 games. He is a naturalized American.

   #8. Jermaine Bucknor (201-F-83, college: Richmond, currently plays in Germany) contributed to Gladiators' victory against the 13th-ranked Ehingen/Urspringschule 82-75 in the German ProA (second division) on Sunday night. Bucknor scored 7 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 29 minutes. This year Bucknor's total stats are: 9.8ppg, 5.4rpg and 2.0apg in five games. He also holds two passports: Jamaican and Canadian.

   #9. Clint Robinson (203-F/C, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA couldn't help the Ill.-Chicago (7-11) in their last game on Monday. Despite Robinson's good performance the Ill.-Chicago was defeated 74-68 in Milwaukee by the University of Wisconsin -. He scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line). Robinson's total stats this season are: 5.2ppg and 5.0rpg.

   #10. Ryan Martin (206-F-91, college: Tenn Tech, currently plays in France) managed to help STB Le Havre in a victory against the 15th-ranked Aix-Maurienne 88-84 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. He scored only 4 points in 6 minutes on the court. This year Martin's total stats are: 6.0ppg and 3.8rpg in five games. He holds both Jamaican and British passports.

Enel Basket Brindisi (Serie A) strengthened their roster with addition of 28-year old Jamaican international power forward Samardo Samuels (206-122kg-89, college: Louisville). He started the season at Jiangsu Nangang Dragons Nanjing in Chinese CBA league. In 22 games he recorded very impressive stats: 20.2ppg, 7.5rpg and 1.4apg this season.
