Dylan Ennis selected the top Jamaican playing abroad in last week's games - Jan 11, 2018

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Jamaican players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international point guard Dylan Ennis (187-91, agency: BeoBasket, college: Oregon, currently plays in Euroleague). He led his Serbian team Crvena Zvezda to a victory against the sixth-ranked Zalgiris (10-6) 77-65 in the Euroleague on Friday night. Ennis recorded 12 points in only a mere 11 minutes on the court. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (7-9) is placed 11th in the Euroleague. It's Ennis' first season with the team. This year he averages: 4.3ppg and FT: 90.9% in four games he played so far. Ennis has a dual citizenship: Canadian and Jamaican. He played for the Jamaican senior national team four years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international center Kevin Young (206-84, college: Missouri, currently plays in Uruguay). Young was the major contributor in an U Universitario's victory against the closely-ranked Hebraica (9-6) 102-95 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB in Monday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 12 rebounds. Young also added 4 assists. Urunday Universitario (11-7) is placed fourth in the LUB. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Young has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.6ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 61.9%(104-168) and FT: 81.1%. Young played for the Jamaican national team in 2006.

   #3. The Jamaican player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center Jerome Jordan (215-86, college: Tulsa, currently plays in Spain). He could not help Joventut (2-10) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Jordan's good performance Joventut was badly defeated 84-66 at home by the leading Real Madrid. He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Jordan also added 6 rebounds. Jordan has relatively good stats this season: 12.0ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.2apg, 1.1bpg, 2FGP: 52.3% and FT: 81.2%. He played for the Jamaican national team four years ago.

   #4. Guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point, currently plays in ASEAN League) contributed to a Saigon Heat's victory against the league leader Hong Kong ELL (7-1) 121-115 in the ASEAN League on Tuesday night. Scott scored 29 points (!!!), grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 9 assists (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!). Saigon Heat (3-2) is placed fifth in the ASEAN League. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Scott has very high stats. He averages: 27.6ppg, 6.4rpg, 6.4apg and 2.2spg. Scott is a naturalized American. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He used to play for the Jamaican national team back in 2014.


The list of other players, who all have Jamaican passport but never been selected to any of Jamaican national teams:

   #1. Dane Johnson (208-C-86, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Uruguay) could not help Larre Borges (6-12) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Larre Borges lost 91-99 in a derby game to the leading Atletico Welcome. Johnson had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 16 rebounds. He also added 4 assists and 2 blocks in 38 minutes. It was Larre Borges' fifth consecutive loss in a row. It's Johnson's first season with the team. Johnson has relatively good stats this year: 13.9ppg, 11.1rpg, 2.5apg and 2.1bpg in 17 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American.

   #2. Ryan Harrow (188-G-91, agency: 3Eye, college: Georgia St., currently plays in Basketball Champions League) was not able to help Rosa (1-9) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Harrow's very good performance Rosa was defeated 102-93 on the road by the higher-ranked Umana Venezia (#3). He was the second best scorer with 22 points. Harrow also added 5 rebounds. There are only four games left until the end of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Harrow's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 13.4ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.6apg and 1.4spg. Harrow is a naturalized American.

   #3. Sek Henry (193-G-87, college: Nebraska, currently plays in Israel) led Maccabi Ashdod to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Bnei Hasharon (3-9) 95-87 in the Israeli Winner League last Thursday. He was MVP of the game. Henry had a double-double by scoring 22 points and making 10 passes. He also added 4 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) in 36 minutes. Maccabi Ashdod/Be'er Tuvia (12-4) is placed second in the Winner League. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Henry has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.3ppg, 2.7rpg and 5.1apg in 12 games. Henry is a naturalized American.

   #4. Experienced Jermaine Bucknor (201-F-83, college: Richmond, currently plays in Germany) was not able to secure a victory for Gladiators (7-3) in their last game. Despite Bucknor's very good performance Gladiators lost 85-99 in Ulm to the much lower-ranked (#14) OrangeAcademy. He was the top scorer with 17 points. Bucknor also added 5 rebounds and dished 8 assists in 30 minutes. This year Bucknor's overall stats are: 10.0ppg, 6.2rpg and 2.2apg in 17 games. He has a dual citizenship: Jamaican and Canadian.

   #5. Torin Francis (210-C-83, college: Notre Dame, currently plays in Argentina) couldn't help Quimsa (5-5) in their game against Salta Basket (2-7) in the Argentinian LigaA. Francis scored 5 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Quimsa was defeated 75-66 in Salta by the one of league's weakest teams Basket (#19). This season Francis has relatively solid stats: 12.9ppg and 8.3rpg. He is a naturalized American.

   #6. Ryan Martin (206-F-91, college: Tenn Tech, currently plays in Slovakia) was the major contributor in Prievidza's victory against the closely-ranked Kosice 99-95 in the Slovakian SBL on Wednesday night. Martin had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 10 rebounds in 28 minutes. Martin has very impressive stats this year: 16.1ppg, 8.3rpg and 1.9apg in 23 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Jamaican and British. Despite Martin's Jamaican nationality, he previously played for the British U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Jamaican team.

   #7. Sherman Gay (201-F/C-82, college: Loyola Mary, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a Crailsheim Merlins' victory against the tenth-ranked Kirchheim Knights 95-84 in the German ProA (second division) in Saturday night's game. Gay scored 12 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. This season Gay has very high stats. He averages: 15.6ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.4apg, 2.4bpg and 1.3spg. Gay is a naturalized American.

   #8. Kentan Facey (206-PF-93, college: Connecticut, currently plays in Greece) couldn't help Aiolos Trikallon in their game against Cretan Kings in the Greek A1. He scored 6 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 24 minutes. His team lost 76-86. This year Facey's overall stats are: 5.6ppg and 5.2rpg in 11 games.

   #9. Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson (178-PG-91, college: Calgary, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Lleida Basquet (7-10) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance Lleida Basquet was defeated 74-68 in Manresa by the second-ranked La ICL. Ogungbemi-Jackson was the second best scorer with 10 points. He also added 5 rebounds. This season Ogungbemi-Jackson has relatively solid stats: 13.1ppg, 3.9rpg and 2.9apg. He has both Canadian and Jamaican nationalities. Despite Ogungbemi-Jackson's Jamaican passport, he previously played for the Canadian university national team and probably cannot be called to the Jamaican team.

   #10. Nicholas Richards (212-C-97, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Kentucky in their game against the University of Tennessee in the NCAA. Richards scored 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 24 minutes. His team lost 65-76. This year Richards' overall stats are: 7.3ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.3bpg in 15 games.

Jean D'Arc Vichy Clermont Metropole (ProB) inked 25-year old American (has also Jamaican passport) guard T.J. Sapp (190-86kg-92, college: Murray State, agency: Duran International). He already started the season at Kangoeroes in Belgian Euromillions League. In 12 games he averaged 10.3ppg, 3.6rpg and 2.2apg this season.
