La Union - Pioneros 70-88 Pioneros did a great job in the first game of the Liga Americas Final Four. The Mexican squad cruised past La Union 70-88 for 1-0 record. Argentineans are the hosts of this even, but they started with 0-1. Jovan Harris (191-G/F-81, college: USF) top-scored in victory with 16 points. Forrest Fisher (193-G-80) had 14, while Horacio Llamas (212-C-73) and Robert Hornsby (196-F/C-82, college: Troy) added 12 points each. In the loosing squad, Gregory Lewis (198-F-78, agency: Dream Team Management, college: Winthrop) had 13 points and 8 rebounds. Ariel Pau (186-G-84) and Joe Smith (193-G-77, agency: Priority Sports, college: Al.-Huntsville) also had 13 points apiece. Pioneros had a wonderful start making 9-22 lead in the first ten minutes. La Union cut the margin to 10 points in Q2, but Pioneros shined after the breather again jumping to plus 18. They had no troubles to keep that lead for rest of the way. Obras - Uniceub/BRB 73-63 Obras was better than Uniceub/BRB 73-63 in Game One of the Liga Americas Final Four. The game was played last night and Argentinean squad now has 1-0 record at this event. Tony Washam (200-F-82, college: St.Vincent) was their leading player. He had 23 points and was the top-scorer of this game. Juan Gutierrez (205-F/C-83) had 15 points and 8 rebounds, Martin Osimani (194-G-81, college: Duquesne) followed with 14 pts and 9 rebs, while Julio Mazzaro (190-G-79) added 11 points in this victory. At the other side, Arthur Silva (199-F/G-82) was better than the others with 18 points. Lanus capped their Liga Americas campaign with victory. They overcame Capitanes de Arecibo on the final day of the Final Four stage. Arecibo - Lanus 82-91 Lanus capped their Liga Americas campaign with victory. They overcame Capitanes de Arecibo on the final day of the Final Four stage. Fernando Martina (202-F/C-81) knocked down 19 points to lead the winners. With Pinheiros/Sky grabbing the title a day earlier the teams had no pressure on them entering this one. They traded baskets throughout the opening quarter as scoreboard read 24:24 after ten minutes. Lanus surged ahead in the second period. The Argentinean team posted a 48:41 halftime lead. The teams remained hot offensively in the third quarter. Lanus maintained the advantage entering the fourth frame up by 7 points 71:64. They outgunned Arecibo 20:18 in the fourth frame and sealed the winning outcome at the end. Patricio Prato (195-G-79) delivered 17 points, while Battle added 15 points for the winners. Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-G/F-86, college: Virginia Tech) answered with 20 points for Arecibo. David Cortez Ruiz had 14 points in the loss.
Brasilia - Pinheiros/Sky 85-81 Uniceub/BRB added some positive moments to their Liga Americas Final Four campaign beating Pinheiros/Sky on the final day of the competition. Welington Dos Santos (185-PG-81) came up with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the winners. Pinheiros/Sky entered the game clinching the title on Saturday. Uniceub/BRB dominated in the first half. The NBB champions grabbed a 25:18 lead after ten minutes. They stretched the gap in the second quarter. Brasilia accounted for a 48:31 halftime lead. But Pinheiros/Sky picked up the slack in the third quarter. The champions went on a 30:16 rally to get within 3 points at the final intermission. Uniceub/BRB however slowed their opponents down in the fourth frame and sneaked to a narrow win at the end. Alex Ribeiro (191-G-80, agency: Interperformances) delivered 15 points, while Arthur Silva contributed 14 points in the victory. Brasilia - Arecibo 74-88 Capitanes de Arecibo opened the win count at the Liga Americas Final Four stage. They overcame Uniceub/BRB on the second day of the tournament in Arecibo. Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-G/F-86, college: Virginia Tech) stepped up with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the winners. Capitanes de Arecibo got to a comfortable start. They dropped 27 points in the opening frame to take an 11-point lead. The Puerto Rican team stretched the gap in the second quarter. Capitanes piled up a 43:31 halftime lead. Uniceub/BRB tried to put up a comeback rally in the third stanza. The Brazilians fired 25 points to narrow the deficit at 9-point mark. But Capitanes regained control in the fourth quarter and punched the winning ticket at the end. Peter John Ramos (222-C-85) had 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Windi Graterol chipped in 14 points in the victory.
