Regatas C. - Capitanes 89-73
Regatas Corrientes are the new Liga Americas champions. They toppled Capitanes de Arecibo in the key clash on the third day of Final Four action in Xalapa. Federico Kammerichs (203-F/C-80) scored 23 points to lead the Argentinean team to the glory. He was named the MVP after the game. Regatas shocked the Puerto Rican side early as they went on a 10:0 run to take 20:10 lead. Regatas entered the second term up by eight points 20:12. Capitanes struggled to get any closer in the second quarter. They faced a 33:45 halftime deficit. Federico Kammerichs stepped up for the Argentinean side in the third term as he unloaded 10 points. Regatas Corrientes headed into the fourth frame up by as many as 18 points 70:52. Capitanes fought eagerly in the final minutes but came up short of victory. Eduardo Villares knocked down 14 points for the winners. Javier Martinez (189-G-78, agency: Dream Team Management) contributed 12 points, 14 assists and 5 boards for Regatas. Danilo Pinnock (196-G-83, agency: SportsTalent, college: George Washington) responded with 19 points and 6 boards for Capitanes de Arecibo. Larry Ayuso (190-G-77, agency: Global Sports Plaza, college: USC) provided 16 points in defeat.

Halc.Xalapa - Halc.Rojos 87-81
Halcones Xalapa claimed the third position in the Liga Americas. They outscored Halcones Rojos on the final day of the Final Four tournament. Louis Roe (200-F-72, college: Massachusetts) provided 17 points and 10 boards for the hosts. Halcones Xalapa started the game aggressively. They fired 26 points in the opening term to take a 4-point lead. Xalapa maintained the advantage in the second term. They piled up a comfortable 53:41 halftime lead. The home team tipped off the third term with ten points in a row to boost the gap. But Halcones Rojos stayed in the game as they went on a 13:0 rally to trail by just six points with ten minutes left. Halcones Rojos outgunned Xalapa 21:20 in the fourth period but it was not enough to celebrate victory. Adam Parada added 14 points, while Leandro Garcia Morales (186-G-80, college: Texas A&M) contributed 13 points in the win. Jaime Lloreda (201-F/C-80, college: LSU) responded with 27 points and 10 rebounds for Halcones Rojos. Anthony Pedroza (191-G-79, agency: Edge Sports, college: Oregon) netted 13 points in the losing effort.


Liga-Americas Round: 2 (Top 4). Capitanes celebrate second straight win - Mar 6, 2011
 
Capitanes - Halc.Xalapa 75-67
Capitanes claimed the second straight win in Liga Americas Final Four. They outscored Halcones Xalapa to step closer to the title. Larry Ayuso (190-G-77, agency: Global Sports Plaza, college: USC) came up with 24 points to lead the Puerto Rican team. Halcones Xalapa suffered the second straight defeat on home soil. The teams stayed very close in the opening term. They traded baskets as Capitanes eked out a narrow 22:21 lead after ten minutes. Larry Ayuso was the key figure for the visitors as he unloaded 13 points in the first half allowing Capitanes to take a 38:33 halftime lead. Larry Ayuso erupted for 11 points more in the third term as Capitanes ensured a 61:53 lead with one quarter remaining. Halcones Xalapa did not give up as their 9:0 run tied things up at 61. But Roberto Jose Hatton delivered 10 points and Capitanes escaped with a tough win at the end. Roberto Jose Hatton accounted for 17 points, while Danilo Pinnock (196-G-83, agency: SportsTalent, college: George Washington) added 10 points, 10 boards and 4 assists in the win. Adam Parada (213-C-81, college: Cal-Irvine) answered with 19 points for Xalapa. Louis Roe (200-F-72, college: Massachusetts) finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

Regatas C. - Halc.Rojos 70-74
Halcones Rojos gained the first win in the Liga Americas Final Four. They outscored Regatas Corrientes of Argentina to improve at 1-1 record. Jaime Lloreda (201-F/C-80, college: LSU) delivered 22 points to pace the winners. Halcones Rojos will face Halcones Xalapa in the final day of the tournament for a chance to win the trophy. Regatas Corrientes slipped at 1-1 and would take on undefeated Capitanes de Arecibo. The first half saw a tight battle. Regatas managed to pull in front 14:12 after ten minutes. The Argentinean team boosted the margin to three points 37:34 at the interval. Regatas maintained the lead throughout the third frame. They entered the final period up by three points 57:54. But Halcones turned things around with a 12:0 run midway through the final stanza. Regatas could not recover after a blow and had to surrender at the end. Brandon Robinson produced 21 points and 9 boards. Paul Stoll (178-G-85) added 12 points in the victory. Federico Kammerichs (203-F/C-80) and Ramzee Stanton (197-F-80, agency: Dream Team Management, college: W.Chester) responded with 16 points each for Regatas. Eduardo Villares (188-G-79) had 11 points in the loss.

Halc.Rojos - Capitanes 68-70
Capitanes ensured the win on the opening day of Liga Americas Final Four in Xalapa. They narrowly defeated Halcones Rojos. Danilo Pinnock (196-G-83, agency: SportsTalent, college: George Washington) came up with a late basket to propel the Puerto Rican side to the victory. He finished with 20 points, 9 boards and 5 assists to lead the charge. Halcones Rojos started the game aggressively. They led 14:4 early in the encounter and stayed in front to finish the first frame up by five 20:15. Halcones Rojos did not loosen the grasp in the second term. They arrived at the interval up by 6 points 37:31. Things hardly changed in the third term. The Mexican team stayed in control as they entered the fourth quarter up by 4 points 55:51. Capitanes finally pulled in front 66:65 late in the clash. David Ruiz (195-F-82) stretched the margin to three points but Carlos Rivera immediately answered from downtown to level things up at 68. Danilo Pinnock stepped up for Capitanes in the crucial moment and sealed the winning outcome. David Ruiz accounted for 18 points, while Daniel Santiago (216-C-76, agency: Priority Sports, college: N.Mexico) contributed 15 points in the victory. Jaime Lloreda (201-F/C-80, college: LSU) answered with 23 points and 11 boards for Halcones Rojos. Brandon Robinson (202-F-81, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: Auburn) tallied 15 points, 6 boards and 4 assists in the loss.

Halc.Xalapa - Regatas C. 72-81
Regatas Corrientes celebrated the opening win at the Liga Americas Final Four. They defeated Halcones Xalapa in Mexico yesterday to improve at 1-0 record. Regatas will next face Halcones Rojos tonight. The hosts will try to bounce back against Capitanes de Arecibo. It was a tough battle in the first half. Neither side was able to gain any sort of clear advantage. Halcones Xalapa and Regatas stayed knotted up at 13 after ten minutes. The Argentinean team pulled in front in the second quarter. They grabbed a narrow 24:22 lead at the interval. Both teams increased the tempo in the third term. Regatas Corrientes unloaded 29 points in the period to post a comfortable 9-point lead with one quarter to go 53:44. Halcones Xalapa went on a desperate rescue rally in the fourth quarter. The hosts erupted for 28 points in the period but their defense remained out of sync and Regatas capitalized scoring 28 points of their own and stealing a valuable win at the end. Federico Kammerichs (203-F/C-80) finished with impressive 18 points and 19 rebounds for Corrientes. Ramzee Stanton (197-F-80, agency: Dream Team Management, college: W.Chester) added 17 points in the win. Louis Roe (200-F-72, college: Massachusetts) answered with 23 points and 8 rebounds for Halcones Xalapa. Leandro Garcia Morales (186-G-80, college: Texas A&M) had 18 points in the loss.
