Algodoneros de Torreon have embarked on a southern american tour in preparation for their upcoming 2008 LNBP season. Led by head coach Javier Diaz Castroverde, The team plans to start physical conditioning in the beach under the direction of physical trainer Javier Beltran . Algodoneros will then play exhibition games in Peru against Castroverde's former team Regatas.

Algodoneros will then play exhibition games in Peru against Castroverde's former team Regatas. Castroverde is traveling with his assistant Nathan Mott, 10 players and hopes that the team relishes the opportunity to get away in preparation for the season. Under Castroverde, Algodoneros enjoyed one of its most succesful seasons in their history last year, and with an improved roster, the expectations are high. Regatas will pay the visit to Algodoneros next month in Torreon. The team is expected back on August 18th to continue its preparation in Torreon.
Mexicos National Team ended its three-game trip in Monterrey, with a balance of 3-0 against the CBA All-Stars (USA).
Ray Castillo (196-G/F-82, college: UTPA) leaded the greens in scoring at the end of the mini tournament, as Curtis Haywood (198-G-75, college: Oklahoma City) leaded CBA.

Mexican U18 National Team needed overtime to topple Bahamas in the final game of the FIBA Americas Championship for both teams. Mexico managed to overcome an early 6-point deficit to force the extra period and pulled away with a narrow victory at the end. Mexican juniors thus clinched the 7th overall spot at the tournament leaving Bahamas winless at the 8th.

Mexican U18 National Team needed overtime to topple Bahamas in the final game of the FIBA Americas Championship for both teams. Mexico managed to overcome an early 6-point deficit to force the extra period and pulled away with a narrow victory at the end. Mexican juniors thus clinched the 7th overall spot at the tournament leaving Bahamas winless at the 8th. Bahamas opened a 16:10 lead after the opening stanza and maintained it throughout the major part of the game. However Mexico bounced back in the final quarter. They denied the deficit and surged in front 60:54 with under 3 minutes left in regulation. Bahamas held on as Leon Cooper (188-G-91) notched a jumper sending the game into overtime. In the extra period Mexico turned out a bit luckier as they eke out a narrow victory. Carlos Toussaint (191-G-91) led all scorers with 23 points. Jorge Casillas (196-F-90) provided 22 points and 14 boards for the winners. Donathen Moss (201-C-90) answered with 15 points and 16 boards for Bahamas. Shavaro Bowleg (198-F-90) tallied 14 points, while Leon Cooper finished with 13 in a loss. Bahamas outrebounded their opponents 56:41 but committed 18 turnovers down the stretch. They also shot only 12% from downtown allowing Mexico to prevail at the end.

Venezuelan Junior National Team extended their winning streak to 2 games as they defeated Mexico yesterday. The win meant Venezuela would take on Uruguay for the fifth place at the FIBA Americas Championship tomorrow. Mexico will play against Bahamas for the 7th overall spot at the event. Gregory Echenique (208-C-90) came up with yet another impressive performance as he tallied 21 points and 17 boards to pace Venezuela.

The win meant Venezuela would take on Uruguay for the fifth place at the FIBA Americas Championship tomorrow. Mexico will play against Bahamas for the 7th overall spot at the event. Gregory Echenique (208-C-90) came up with yet another impressive performance as he tallied 21 points and 17 boards to pace Venezuela. Javinger Vargas (206-C-90) was helpful with 19 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Armando Fernandez (188-G-90) answered with game-high 24 points for Mexico. Venezuela got to a better start as they led 22:15 after the first frame. The complexion of the game hardly changed in the second period as Venezuelan team stretched the gap to 9 points at the interval 45:36. Venezuelan side stunned their opponents with a 23:10 rally in the third quarter and Mexican team never recovered. Venezuela had a massive advantage under the rims and easily secured the winning outcome in the final minutes. Venezuela shot 47% from the field and pulled down 58 rebounds including 25 offensive caroms. Carlos Toussaint (191-G-91) posted 17 points in a losing clause. Mexico shot 37% from the field and collected only 29 rebounds down the stretch. They also lacked accuracy from charity stripe knocking down only 45% of freebies.

Uruguayan U18 National team claimed their first win at the FIBA Americas Championship in Argentina. They held off Mexican counterparts to clinch the third spot in preliminary Group A. Miguel Barriola (193-F-90) came up with a monster performance tallying 23 points and 27 boards to pace Uruguay to the initial success. Uruguay juniors will now take on Bahamas in the classification round.

Uruguayan U18 National team claimed their first win at the FIBA Americas Championship in Argentina. They held off Mexican counterparts to clinch the third spot in preliminary Group A. Miguel Barriola (193-F-90) came up with a monster performance tallying 23 points and 27 boards to pace Uruguay to the initial success. Uruguay juniors will now take on Bahamas in the classification round. Uruguayan defense worked hard in the opening stanza to limit their opponents to just 8 points for a 12:8 lead heading into the second period. Mexico however struck back in the second quarter and clipped the gap to 2 points at halftime. The teams traded baskets throughout the third stanza and Uruguay remained on top 42:39. Mexican team surged ahead early in the fourth stanza and enjoyed a 44:43 advantage with just over 8 minutes left in the game. But Uruguay exploded with a 20:5 rally to celebrate victory at the end. Nicolas Catala (196-F-91) produced 16 points, while Bruno Fitipaldo (193-G-91) secured 12 points in a win. Carlos Toussaint (191-G-91) answered with 13 points for Mexico. Daniel Vivas (198-F-90) netted 11 points in a losing case. Uruguay pulled down 55 boards including 20 offensive ones. Mexico will face Venezuela today.

They achieved their first goal yesterday as the win meant they had qualified for U19 World Championship to be held in New Zealand in 2009. The hosts also booked their spot in the semis leaving Mexican counterparts without the playoffs.

But some missed shots allowed Canada to come back to life and regain control. The North Americans withheld the Mexican effort and posted an important victory at the end.
