Brazil - Canada 88-70

Brazil had a joyful Day One of Marchand Continental Championship Cup 2011. The host of this event celebrated 88-70 victory against Canada for 1-0 record. Puerto Rico also won in Day One so Brazil and Puerto Rico currently share the first place. Canada and Dominican Republic have 0-1. Tiago Splitter (211-C/F-85, agency: Interperformances) and Rafael Hettsheimeir (206-C-86) were the leading players in Brazil with 14 points each. Guilherme Giovannoni (202-F-80, agency: Interperformances) followed them with 13 pts and home squad had two more players with double-digits. In the loosing squad, Carl English (192-G-81, college: Hawaii) delivered 17 points. Denham Brown (198-F-83, agency: Edge Sports, college: Connecticut) had 16 and Jevohn Shepherd (196-F-86, college: Michigan) added 14 points, plus 7 boards. Brazil destroyed Canada in the first ten minutes 24-2 and never looked back after that. Quarters: 24-2, 21-16, 17-20, 26-32. In Day Two, Brazil will meet Dominican Republic. Canada will take on Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico cruised past Dominican Republic in Day One of the Marchand Continental Championship Cup 2011. They celebrated 99-77 win sharing the first place with Brazil, who outplayed Canada also yesterday. Carlos Arroyo (188-G-79, college: FIU) was a key player for the winners. He spent 32 minutes on the court collecting 28 points and 6 assists. Jose Juan Barea (181-PG-84, college: Northeastern) also was great adding 19 points and 9 assists to this victory. Ricky Sanchez (212-C/F-87) and Alejandro Carmona (194-G/F-83) (6 rebs) helped with 15 and 12 points respectively. In Dominican Republic, Jack Michael Martinez (203-F/C-81, agency: Paris Global Sports) was better than the others with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Al Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida) and Luis Flores (188-G-81, college: Manhattan) (5 as) had 14 and 9 points respectively. Quarters: 23-14, 23-20, 32-26, 21-17. In Day Two, Puerto Rico will meet Canada. Dominican Republic will play against Brazil.
